Anybody feeling helpful? :)

Had enough of poor quality speakers in my car and so I've decided it's time for an upgrade.

I won't be fitting the system myself, so most likely will buy the products from Hallfrauds and get them to fit it?

I don't know much about audio, but apparently you need a head unit with 2x pre-outs if you want both an amp and sub? Is that right?

Total budget is £350-400

Would like sub/amp/head unit/front speakers.

As said, I've not experience whatsoever and not feeling taking my car apart myself because it probably won't go back together again once I'm finished :p

Urm, I would't bother. Put it towards a better car with a decent factory system.

Probably not helping sorry :p

Goto an audio specialist instead of Halfrauds IMO

And take a look at Denon kit, not sure if the game has moved on, but back in the day I had a Denon amp, 6x9's (forget the make) but the sound quality / power has stayed with me.
I did spend double (if not more) your budget mind you although I'm talking a good 15 years back.

**** me! I feel old. :/

sorry but for a head unit, amp, sub speakers and install £350-400 isn't going to get you close to anything worth having

If you buy sensibly, some second hand and DIY install then it could.

Headunit: £150
Sub+Box: £50 (2nd hand)
4ch Amp: £60 (2nd hand)
Cabling: £40
Speakers: £80
Sound Deadening: £whatevers left!

That's pretty much my install, although I haven't got round to sound deadening since I changed car. It's far from the best, and I'm planning some upgrades, but it's a hell of an improvement on stock!!

Hertz Dieci front components, even try running them from a good head unit, very efficient speakers and sound well for £80.

JBL sub and amp?

Decent head unit around a ton?

Easily doable and if you set it up right you can impress yourself and others.

if youre not DIYing the install, it wont be worth spending the money.

half the fun is installing it anyway

if i was spending that amount id get it all second hand and do it all myself and make a proper box for the sub (the chav in me wants to add a sub to the e36...)

As others have said, do it yourself. I wouldn't trust Halfords to install a bulb let alone a hifi setup.

My budget choice would be:
Hertz Deici components for the front
JL 10W0 10" sub in a sealed enclosure
A headunit from Alpine or Pioneer for about £100 to £150
2nd hand 4 channel JBL GTo amp

That lot should be within your budget and will sound pretty decent. You're not going to get anything amazing for that budget but with some smart buying and research, you can certainly get something that will sound far better than any factory fitted system.

Oh, I'll just add that you should stay well away from FLI, Vibe, Mutant and any other of the "boom boom Corsa" brands that Halfords sell. They are crap, sound crap, look crap and won't last.

JBL are good on a budget. Hertz make some low-end kit that is really rather good, as do Focal.

Whatever you do, keep £30 to £50 back for Dynamat or some other sound deadening. The difference it makes is more than the difference between £100 speakers and £300 speakers.
