Spec me VPN

does the paid service have the option to auto reconnect? It's not available with the free version that I can see.

Yes. In the paid one under settings there is an option for auto reconnection. Paid has what I assume are standard across VPNs. Auto reconnect, start on boot, connect on app start. You can also make profiles, stuff like specific server+protocal and make the quick connect button use that or auto connect to that profile at start up.

'Upgrade' to a PAYG account, you get priority (I've never struggled to allocate Ampere resources, ever). You still won't pay anything unless you purposefully go over your free allocation. If the 'estimator' says you'll pay a few pence (or a pound or so) for the boot drive, ignore it - it's a bug, it's free. Just ensure you delete the boot volumes if you scrap any VPS before you make a new one, or you *will* pay for those over 4 volumes/200GB.
@Rainmaker I've followed your advice, and attempted to upgrade my Free Tier account to a PAYG account. I understand that I need to add a payment method, but strangely when adding the payment method (my Monzo card) it instantly asks me to approve a transaction of £79.87! Am I missing something, or should I contact Oracle to query it?

Sorry I forgot about that, I've been PAYG for a long time. I used a credit card, but they 'hold' $100 for the day then release it back. They don't actually take funds off or charge you, it's just their messed up way of checking the card is active (instead of, you know, doing an active card check).

Ahhh, makes sense...they held £0.80 when I created the Free Tier account (I think this is $1 USD), so probably like $100 USD being held for the PAYG upgrade

First issue experienced with Surfshark, I couldn't do a Google search on my Samsung tablet after enabling...

An update on this. I've switched from Surfshark to Proton and can now rule out the VPN being the issue, it's the search engine. I've now switched from Google to Duck Duck Go.
