Spec my friend an uber-cheap car

Whats the point, a grand for the car, a grand for the insurance, £200 for tax and MOT and £300 a year on petrol just for 6 miles a day is a waste. It'll work out roughly at £6 a day just for a three mile journey each way. Don't moan about rain, some waterproof over trousers and a coat will keep them warm for all the 15 mins they'll be riding :)

I paid £2400 for my car, £250 for tax and MOT, £450 on insurance and I dont even drive my car during the day.

Should I just get the bus when I want to go somewhere. :p:rolleyes:

Buying a car for JUST a three mile journey is a bit of a waste to be honest but as the person is going to use it for other things then it's not going to be a waste.

wow a commute of 6 mles a day....
how about tell the lazy bugger to walk or get a push bike and some good waterproofs, it really isnt worh the costs of insurance road tax, mot, and buying the car for such a small distance.

CBT and a brand new CBR125. Wifes Sisters Kid just got one from a honda dealer 0% Finance over 3 years with free helmet (total cost iirc £2020) plus be worth a bit to sell on after.

All the benefits of a pushbike, double the cost of the car and none of the benefits...

Double? No prehaps more than the OP budget however with 0% finance and the higher selling costs after a year could be better value for the cost. Also better MPG and cheaper insurance (normally). If its just for a 2 mile ride to work could do a lot worse..

Okay 2nd Idea, 2.5 omega cdx, get a nice (yet slightly old x reg) for around £1k, heated seats, multi cd player etc not too bad on petrol (ours was ~25mpg).

Well yeh thats what I meant, double the budget...

Not as good mpg as a push bike though :D

would the Omega not be a bit heavy on insurance? Being an old person-mobile will probably help though

But you're not 19 and you have ncb so you're in a totally different risk group.

Yeah however, actually wow. Just looked .

Mondeo wasnt a lot when I was younger, so presumed this would be even less.

£2500 is the cheapest (amercian express is £4200) TPFT on money supermarket for a 2.0 omega. So maybe not .

The cheapest small car you come across with a years worth of mot/ just mot'd ?

Tbh tell him to get a cheap ( 20 quid) 2nd hand bike. Whats wrong with shopping on a bike, get a bike bag and put groceries in there... Like this:

Or tell him to get a moped if he's too lazy to cycle...

No set budget but he's looking at cars between about £500 and £1500 if that gives you an idea

MPG isn't important due to the low mileage but no 3litre V6's

No 3 litre V6s, aye, how about http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/972250.htm
5 litre V12 :D ..actually that's one hell of a lot of car for the money and it took me about 40 seconds to find that. I love the ...goldfish bowl tv in the back, looks like it came off a BBC Micro :p

That Fiddy is awesome. Love the TV.
TBH, if he wants cheap motoring there is no point in selecting a car and then looking for an example of said car.
Best thing to do is scour the free-ads etc for something, anything with T&T, and then try and see if he can insure it for sensible money.

However, I do agree with other who have said to get a scooter or a bicycle.
