Specs 3

Yeah they are but they're also the most likely type of road where a traffic cop will nick you for speeding :p

Not unless you're doing ~95+, from what I've seen they generally don't pull anyone until they reach that sort of speed and leave people doing 80-85 alone, unless they're driving like tools anyway.

This will do FA for those people in stolen cars, cloned cars, cars registered to people who don't exist and people who have generally got a vehicle that the DVLA have managed to overlook/loose from the records or simply never bother to update the details on.

Ah, now a little conversation I had a few weeks ago makes perfect sense.

I noticed some objects that looked suspiciously like SPECs cameras being mounted on lamposts all around my home town. All were being fitted by men with hi-viz jackets with Siemens on the back.

On my way home there were two such gentlemen fiddling with the guts of a lampost just round the corner from my house - so I went and asked them what the cameras were for and when they would be active.

They informed me they were to measure 'average journey time' through the town. When asked if the cameras used ANPR and were really there to measure average speed rather than journey time they became very defensive and wouldn't give me an answer other than 'we can't tell you yes or no to that'. When pressed about ANPR they said it was none of my business and went back to their van.

Don't they already have these on the outskirts of Nottingham, I'm sure they've been there years and I've never seen any roadworks round there? It was only a matter of time I guess.

I noticed more going up on the M42 last week around the M6 junction, although these are probably for the never ending roadworks that take place round here.

The SPECS cameras have been on the A610 in Nottingham since mid-2000.

As long as they don't put them on back roads and other minor routes I don't care. It's not like speeding on motorways is particularly a wise thing to do even today.

Remains to be seen whether they will allow the unofficial 80mph limit on motorways though.

It's a lot wiser to do 80mph on the motorway than it is to do 70mph in the outside lane like I saw 1 person in their little corsa do yesterday.

By which time my car won't be wearing a front number plate.

"I want to get maximum airflow to my intercooler, officer"

;)

My rear plate fell off the other week, took a while to get a new one...

Problem is its not like our cars would be hard to track down, hmm look for young lads in modded old mens cars :p

Exactly and that's my question. Will these Specs 3 cameras be setup to look for what a traffic cop looks for currently? Or will they be set to look for 70mph + 10% + 2mph...

Well put it this way; A traffic cop's main reason for not pulling people over for doing ~80 is that it's a waste of their time. Their time is better served watching out for numpties and of course they can be called upon in the event of an accident or whatever.
A camera however is there soley to catch people speeding, so has no real reason not to catch every person doing ~78+

:(

Another thought - long rural A roads, average speed..

Around here there are B roads where you can keep a 60+ average.

They wont bother with low use roads anyway, regardless if they are black spots with this gear.

Local chavs have stole my plates officer, and about the broken spec camera on my 20mph residental road.. guess they're also taking up street cricket..

Don't usually wish death or horrible things to anyone but the makers of specs and those that implement these ridicilous money grabbing schemes...i dunno.
