Hi all fellow guitarists,

Have just been to Andertons and fallen in love with the Randall RG75G3 Combo, but am also thinking the stack version as they have it on offer for £499 including the cab.

But here is the indecision do I just buy a marshall I tried out the AVT and the MG100 combos, but the dirty channels wernt up to the randall, anyone else here use randall or have an opinion

I also nearly bought an Ibanez SA260FM in amber, but the wife would kill me

Well if you prefer the sound of the Randall over the others you've tried, then get that.

Were there any Laney's there to try?

I wouldn't really knock an entire brand because of your experience with one amp really.

If you like the Randall i'd just get that tbh..

Is it worth getting the older model with the digital effects or am I better of getting a pedal??? please help might go get it later on today I just cant make my mind up

*shrug* no idea for that, dont think anyone on these boards (or at least nobody that posts in here) has a randall amp. couldnt tell you whether the onboard effects are any good.

as a rule are on board FX worth it or is it just better to get a pedal or a multi FX thingy

it all depends on the amp! seriously.

i would say the built in reverb on a Cornford Hellcat is superb, but i wouldnt say the reverb built into my Vox Valvetronix is very good.

it all depends whether you know the exact type of effects you want.

if you know you love the sound of an "MXR phase 90" then buy an amp without any onboard effects and get an MXR Phase 90.

if you dont know whether you like the onboard effects of an amp, go and have a play.

its mainly the chorus and the delay I might use I had a play and it wasnt a patch on the Boss pedals, so perhaps I get the amp I want now and then get some boss stomp boxes next month, or go all out and get a multi fx stomp box

I know you're on a budget but don't buy a MG*100 combo, six months down the line you will regret it and want something else. They don't have a huge amount of tonal range, admittedly they are okay for bedroom/practise use but they are limited. Trust me, I used to use one..

got the randall RG75G3, oh and an ibanez SA260FM in amber so much nicer than my squier strat, gonna have to break it to the wife when she gets back, she knows about the amp just not the guitar yet, please pray for my man bits

Laney's are NOTHING like Randalls man - who said that lol?

My brother has the Randall G3 Half Stack - it's pretty damn awesome - and at £499 thats a bargain too...

beware though it's ****in heavy!!!

if you read the thread, you'll be able to see it was me that said it :)

from what ive heard of some solo's being played through laneys and randalls at the £500 price range they are very similar.

of course, when you start spending £1000 upwards on an amp you start getting the balls of them out and they really have different sounds.

no I meant the lower end models - around £500

especially Laney Tube Fusions, etc...

they have such a harsh, shril "Brittish" distortion sound

whereas Randalls are Fat, chunky and bassy... the 2 are night & day imo...

i was thinking more laney VH100R - that compares to the randalls in the same price range.

dont wanna get into an argument about it cause ive not played through both, but ive played through that laney and ive heard a few randalls.

yeh fair play man...

If you want to get a multi FX thing - dont bother with anything other than a Boss GT8...

people will try to sway you with the Line 6 but the gt8 really actually kicks its ****...

I've have one and, where it doesn't quite match a full blown tube amp distortion (talking like a H&K Switchblade or something!) it is really REALLY good!!

how many of the pro's have a limited equipment budget???
