Spectate me a Guitar Amp Please

I have to say that the GT8 is more suited to the complete opposite... I'd say it's better in a live situation than in the studio

Just got back from watching a local band and halfway through the 2nd set I turned to a mate and said the guitarist is getting some wonderful sounds out of his guitar. He must have gone through at least 20 different sounds ranging from very heavy to acoustic and all sounded genuine to the covers they were doing. I could only see his amps which were two Marshall Combos and his guitar was a Charvel. Because I was a bit back from the stage I couldn't see his pedals and asked my mate to check out the pedals he was using. he came back and reported he was using a GT8
After the gig the guitarist came to talk to me about my band and I asked him how long he'd spent programming the pedal to which he replied 'months'.
It was worth the effort because he didn't have one bad sound and he did a range of Steve Vai, Rush, Queensryche, Motley Crue, Saraya, Ozzy etc.
I have to take it back.

I was sitting right at the front and could see he had a Marshall 601 and Marshall AVT150 working together. he had his bright red Charvel and went through a GT8. he obviously had his Marshalls on a clean sound and used all the sounds off the GT8 and it did sound awesome and I've never heard anybody get excellent sounds out of a multi FX on stage. like you say DMP he went through at least thirty different sounds by the end of the night and all sounded excellent. Its a pity the band were a bit :( most of the time but I know you'll never say anything bad about local talent. Is that why you left at 11:30pm?
I've never seen so many people walk out of a pub but you can blame that on the material. Even I hadn't heard of 50% of their covers.

Anybody who is willing to get up with a real instrument and entertain folk is alright by me but if they ask for constructive criticism I will give it. I left the pub because I had to be up at 6am. You're right about the material and there was one song that I didn't know  The singer did keep saying "You probably won't know this one but we like it". I'm afraid that doesn't keep a fickle audience entertained and when I walked out the landlord said they had emptied his pub.

Cool - he would have been using his GT8 in Stereo mode - where it sounds truly awesome! Did he have the amps mic'd up or just have the sound from them?

Well he was definately using a GT8 - I've had mine for over a year and it definately takes you months of work to get it sounding good - mainly because there's so much to tweak, you really need the experience of using it to get the best from it so I understand that sentence completely lol!

I must say dm I really appeciate you posting this, its very honest and I have great respect for you admitting that you were impressed with a multi-FX - truly the sign of a good chap!

thats the tricky business with playing a pub gig - you have to play to the crowd, not yourselfs. At the end of the day, if the ppl there don't like the songs then they won't watch :(

However, playing at proper venues is a bit different as the ppl who come along know what they are getting and why they are going there!!

You might not believe this but I like being proved wrong.
Only one of the amps had a microphone on it.

ahh thats strange... so his soudn was coming through the PA? That's quite odd but still I guess your hear some sound from the 2nd amp ....

Anyway... it's quite a nifty little thing... I agree that it is easy for the GT8 to sound digital and grainy, but with enough work it will sound good!! Especailly for clean / over drive sounds... hi gain sounds are quite difficult to get right!

But yep dm I must say you have all my respect for that!

I'd say (just like my band does) that the majority of the sound came from his backline and he put the mic in front of the 601 for that extra bit through the PA.

yeh that must be what happened or else no point in the 2 amps lol... I wish I could run my GT8 in stereo at gigs but we dont get most of the sound from the backline, its mostly from the PA so not really possible... plus we are a 2 guitar band and I'd be way to overpowering running in stereo!
