SPECTRE Bond24 discussion [Please use spoiler tags when discussing the plot]

Looking good to me. Agreed it does look to be heading to a dark place

It is, and I say bring it on. I also like the connections to Bond's past, which to me add some depth to his character, rather than him simply being a government machine. I really do think this is going to be the best looking Bond film ever, with the trailer already showing some awesome cinematography... I was disappointed when I heard Deakins was not to be DOP on 24 but maybe van Hoytema is an even better choice.

Its great to see Mr. White back, and boy does he look rough; I can't wait to see his part of the story unfold.

Sorry to lower the tone, but it really does sound like Mr. White calls Bond a 'C word' dancing in a hurricane @1.03 :p ... obviously the word is 'kite', and its a nice line, but his accent did made me

I just watched this and thought the same thing and was going to post about it :D

Craig is my second favourite bond, after the woefully underrated Dalton, and I look forward to this.

:D

For me Craig is #1 by a huge margin... with 'maybe' Connery as #2. I watched OHMSS two nights ago, which touches on a lot of the SPECTRE themes, and I was really impressed by Lazenby's portrayal as Bond... I think if he'd been given more time he would have been a great Bond, and certainly better than Moore (and at least an equal to Dalton) ... Lazenby & Dalton both suffered the same thing, in being the right Bond at the wrong time.

I know I'm in the minority with this but meh :p

Each to their own... everyone takes away something different from the franchise... there is no right or wrong. I just enjoy the darker side, rather than the 'cheese' even if a bit of the ripe stuff goes down a treat now and then.

Absolutely bloody awesome!!! :D How on earth am I supposed to wait till November... how?

I know you should never judge a film by its trailer, but this looks to be shaping up to be one of the best Bond's ever.

Just booked tickets for 8pm on 26 October

Cool  .... I really want to see this on release day, but need to get kiddysitters arranged.

So, what do we thing of Sam Smith doing the title track?... I can't say I've heard much of his stuff, so will reserve judgement until I hear it. What I've have listened too is okay, which is what I thought of Adele, and I loved her Skyfall theme...... so, we'll see.

Hmm if he didn't go all squeaky it might not have been so bad, but there is way too much falsetto. The orchestration is nice, and very bondian, but his voice seems all wrong to me. It has grown on me after a few listens, but Skyfall (which I think it a great theme) its not.

However, it is still a weak song as it just doesn't build to anything.

I think this is the main problem - falsetto aside - it just doesn't take-off, though it sounds like it wants too; where it needs power, it goes whiny. However, there is some good stuff within and it does 'ear worm' itself into your brain... having given it half dozen listens, or so.

It is certainly not the worst Bond title track, by a long way.. hello Madge.

Edit: I really wish the Radiohead rumor had been true.. now that would have been interesting!

Will not look :)

I did look... all looks good to me.

I'm only on bloody holiday the week it opens, with no chance to see it till the following Sunday after release. Bloody schools not allowing us to take our kids on holiday during term time, have caused this clash  I mean what is more important Bond or education? :p

A program on BBC last night had Paul Hollywood looking at the history of Aston Martin, and he got to have a drive in the DB10 they made specially for this Bond film (only 10 made and none to be sold)

What a beautiful car! :D

Why do the BBC trot out these TV celeb type people to present program on something they have no connection with?... he's a TV chef ffs. Not that I've anything against him, but surely someone else would have been better? Though perhaps I should reserve judgement until I've seen it :o ... I guess its on iPlayer?

That gives it so much more power in some bits - still not a big fan but that is 10x better.

Yep!

Listening to the song against the backdrop of clips from the film in the video seems to make it fit well. Despite my reservations it does manage some moments of grandeur that are very Bond... the tears at the end make me puke though

All the snippets, both from this and the trailers looks amazing! I really have a feeling this might be the best Bond yet... there, I've cursed it now.

In all honesty Daniel Craig never really was James Bond.

His Bond has no charm, charisma and is not even remotely funny.

I disagree strongly with these charges, but after ten years in the role lets not 'go back there' ffs :p

I would hate to see Moore levels of slapstick return... even Brosnan was too stupid for words at times. I think Spectre will have a bit more humor... Skyfall had its moments... but it need to be be balanced, so it doesn't come off as naff.

Agree completely.... Hated skyfalls storyline

Look on YouTube for honest trailers skyfall. It just shows how bad the plot is

Despite it all, and I agree with all the critics regarding Skyfalls plot [its downright silly at times]... but, I still love the film. You can unpick most Bond plots, and most films for that matter, esp. action movies. Having said that, I hope this one has more plausibility, and fewer holes.

Reviews coming in strong, and the hype train is in full force... I think this will eclipse Skyfalls box office and be the biggest - and maybe best - Bond yet. Its the first in the series I've been following the making of so closely, and I have never been so excited for a film release... right now I would take this over Star Wars if I had to choose; fortunately I don't have too :D

I can't believe I can't get to see it until a week Sunday

Ahh, not liking all the 'boring' remarks... one thing a Bond film should not be is boring!... I'm seeing it tomorrow, having just returned from holiday, and I'm trying to gauge the reaction without spoilers, which is tricky. I love Mendes style, so if its anything like Skyfall I should be happy... anyway, despite some of the reaction I'm still gagging to see it.

Well I'm not sure where the 'boring' is coming from, and I'm at a loss to what folks want from Bond? [I'm not sure they know themselves]... I thought this one had it all really... It had humour (worryingly, almost Moore-like silliness in a couple of places) and some deadly seriousness, coupled with several amazing set pieces, a big bad-ass henchman, and a decent villain [though perhaps lacking true menace] two stunning Bond 'girls' and three stunning cars.... and a
fluffy white cat :D

For me this was a 'Bond' film through and through... okay, the story might not stand up to intense scrutiny, but I have no wish to pick it apart.

I'm already looking forward to seeing it again, and will get the BD on day one.

BTW... I tried to change/edit the tread title, as it seems silly to call it 'teaser trailer' now, but it won't change

What they're missing is real nail-biting scenes like when Sean Connery was tied down in Goldfinger and a laser was about to slice him in two, or when he had to defuse a bomb. I don't remember anything like that with Daniel Craig.

The chair scene in CR was buttock clenching :D and certainly had tension ... the torture scene in this was pretty tense too, and certainly makes you wince.

This was my ten year olds first 'cinema' Bond, and he loved it too... he's seen most of them on BD and said it was in his top three, with Goldfinger his fav. He had problems watching the 'eyes' scene though [so did I for that matter]

.. Monica Bellucci's character? Did she die? I found it odd she was completely forgotten about? Nothing was said or explained?

Bond tells her he will get Felix Leiter in to help her get to safety... it would have been nice to see more of her... it would have been good to see FL as well :(

We went to see it again yesterday, and I enjoyed it just as much, if not more, second time around (watching with a less critical eye) ... the only thing that fails it somewhat for me is the car chase, which is more like a car promo vid in places than a visceral chase... The opening sequence of QOS is so much better, in car chase terms, with some nail-biting action.

I think of the four DC films this is second for me, edging Skyfall by a gnat's winkle.

1.CR
2.SP
3.Skyfall
4.QOS
