this chap had the right idea!

can anyone tell me what internals a speed camera has?? i know there all digital and take hdd's plus the actual lenses are quite spechalised and expensive...
i only ask as i have one sat outside my place and every thursday i see a van pull up and a chap plugging his lappie into it.... im guessing downloading immages of speeding cars?

im wondering if i should spend the cash for upgrade bits from ocuk or just take an angle grinder to the camera!!

lol

(joke) ;)

true but how satisfying blowing the thing up.....
i see loads of cameras done by putting two van tires over the top of the camera, and then setting light to them, theyu cook up quite well, plus there was a spate of people cutting them down with gas tortches..... good on em i say

You are encouraging criminal damage?

It's the wrong way to fight speed cameras, blow it up they'll just put it back up. Who do you think ended up paying for the new one?

no im not condoning it but your going to have a hard time convinsing anyone who has been done by a camera to pick up the phone and ring plod if they happen to see someone in the process of destroying one....... the bottom line is if you kill enough of them thell soonm get tired of putting them up and not bother, hopefully.

no point useing explosives the length of prison sentence will be to long, he should have used a can of expanding foam through the hole in the back it would have totally knackered the camera just as well :D

Narh, blow it up means people hate it = that spot is a place people speed = more money (also an arguement for need for safety since its where people speed). Also as the public pays for it and the thing literally pays for itself. Why would the department of transport stop putting it up? blowing it up gives them the reason putting more up.

Why are so many people against speed cameras? Is it so hard to be traveling at the speed limit? I don't drive, but I'm learning.

I think the more interesting point about this story is the fact that they used the tracker, supposedly there to trace the vehicle if it has been stolen, to confirm that it was there at the time of the damage to the camera. They can, if they want to, trace your every step!

/checks tin foil hat

That said, fair play to him and I wish he had got away with it, 'revenue' cameras are all part of the conspiracy to control us all. Extra coolness points for the imaginative use of Thermite, possibly the best substance in the know universe. :D

This punk thought he could speed and then blow up the camera.

Now the only speed and blowing he'll be doing; IS IN JAIL!

When you have learned to drive, then you will be:

a) Qualified to ask the question
b) Qualified to answer it

In short, yes it is very hard to stick to the speed limits! ;)

Destroying speed cameras probably just adds to the case for vehicle tracking technology to become mandatory.

I would prefer it if the cameras were next to schools and shops rather than on the motorways and dual carriageways.

He didn't have the right idea at all, if anything he was a bloody idiot.

He's lucky it was only 4 months in jail, as I'm fairly sure it could have been much longer (criminal damage, theft of the materials used etc).
Instead of a driving ban that may have only lasted 30 days* and led to higher insurance charges he has presumably lost his job (theft from employer, misuse of company property, not being able to attend work for 4 months), has a criminal record and still likely to lose his licence if it did catch him speeding.
I'm a bit surpised they didn't do him for attempting to pervert the course of justice in addition to the criminal damage, as the stated reason was to avoid facing the consequencies of breaking the law.

*Which his employer may well have been able to work around (if he didn't need to drive every day on his own, or had been able to take holiday time etc).

I hate to disagree, but i've never had a problem with it
Certainly not enough of a problem that i've had any worries about losing my licence due to it.

im sick and tired of hearing the rubbish road saftey campaigners spout, i am a professional driving instructor, (ards race schools) so i know a thing or two about driving at speed. It is not the speed that causes the accidents, its the lack of basic skills and understanding of car controll that causes accidents!
speed is a way for governments to raise cash legitametly as there is current legislation to back it up.... you look at a modern car with abs and traction, radial tyres and a getter general standerd of road surface, now compare the stopping distances from the late 60's that are still referd to in the highway code, and incedently the foundation of the current speed limits, and compare them to late 60's break technology... i.e if you had some then you were lucky

it winds me up a little...... rant over
