Speed Cameras

In Bedfordshire the police wanted to start fining people for going 71 with average speed cameras and they were told to jog on by the government. So there is definitely some leeway. I think they usually allow up to 79 before you get a fine.

The cameras are not 100% accurate, so if they cut it too fine it probably won't stick.

I'd have thought an average speed calculation over a large distance would be VERY accurate. unless their clock/timing method is completely broken. All you need is synchronised time and two reference points.

This^

My speedometer over reads by around 3mph so if I cruise at an indicated 80mph im actually only doing around 77mph and never get a ticket.

I always drive through speed cameras in 30 limits at an indicated 35mph (actual 32mph) and they never flash.

As already mentioned on this thread no one in the history of the internet has been able to provide proof of being done for doing less than 10%+2 over the limit

As much as thats fine, you do realise you are basically admitting to breaking the law on a regular basis on the internet? maybe not the wisest move?

I really don't think I'm going to get a knock on the door for driving a few miles over the limit ..staying below the 10%+2 guidelines for prosecution
Besides almost everyone on the road strays slightly over the limit occasionally, I'm just admitting that I don't brake down from 32 to 25mph when I go through a speed camera like a lot of people seem to.

Save the advice for the people who post videos of themselves on fb and YouTube driving at 150mph ;)

The tolerance of speed cameras is set county by county, there is no definitive rule for them all.

I was on a speed awareness course last year, one of the guys there got caught by a camera doing 32mph in a 30mph zone. 10%+2? Obviously not.

The 10% +2 is just a guidline, trust me. Rolleyes all you want, I'm only trying to be helpful.

Yes we've all heard of these people who get done for 1 or 2mph over the limit but no one in the history of the internet has ever been able to upload or show proof of this.
It's my personal opinion and own evidence of driving through cameras for the last 25 years that you don't get done below 10%+2

Cheers

What confuses me is whether the cameras are still working on smart motorways when the signs aren't lit up. 50% will tell you they are, 50% will tell you they're not.

That's because it's upto the local force to decide whether to keep them permanently active or not.

Unfortunately you won't find that information online - for obvious reasons.
