Which of these to would be faster:

A drive with 5400rpm and 64meg cache

Or a drive with 7200rpm but 32meg cache


Use will be as main drive and gaming on a windows 7 machine

If you're planning on booting from it then I'd go with the 7200rpm drive, simply because the random access time will be lower. Once you get above about 16Mb the cache size doesn't make much real world difference.

EDIT: This, of course, assumes you're talking about 2 current generation drives.

I'd go with the 7200rpm too, I had both, however with same cache, 7200 is faster,.cache isn't very important, 32meg is plenty
