First off I know it is my fault and that I shouldn't of been speeding...I have had my license for 15 years and never had any points in that whole time. Being really honest I rarely speed, and if I have it has only ever been on motorway never in a built up area.

I got pulled over on the A1 m and was told my speed was just to fast for that road an alledged 97 Mph average...I was also told anything up to 95 they would have given me 6 points and a fine on the spot but as I was a tad over it was up to the guy in the police station.

This happend a week yesterday and I haven't heard a thing?? also I wasn't given anything at the time ?? so how long before I hear anything should I contact the Police station incase it has got lost in the post ?

if you wasnt given anything at the time then id just leave it. i wouldnt advise phoning the police station.

what type of car was it that pulled you over?!

If you were issued with a verbal NIP by the officer then they have upto six months to prosecute. You may still receive a written NIP within fourteen days (from the offense).
I certainly wouldn't contact them!

if they don't produce the paper work before 6 months they can't charge you for it iirc.

So maybe wait ;)

Well I guess I will wait a bit longer see what happens, do I have to attend if it goes to court or can I just admit the offence by post ?

I read in some news article that in some counties they only prosecute only 10% of caught speeders and some upto 80%.

I wouldn't worry about contacting the police unless you want to make sure you're punished. Speeding is a crime but its not up to you to enforce it. They will contact you if they want to.

I was caught at an average of 98 on the A13 London-bound a couple of years ago just before Chrimbo, and after producing my documents at my local station the following week I heard no more about it. I guessed they were busy so I never bothered phoning them to prod their memory about it.

When i was tugged for 120mph on the m1 i wasnt given any paper work.. you may receive a court summons in 3-4 months like i did.

i went to court and was banned for 56 days and a small fine.

yeah but isnt anything over 100 an auto ban anyway

he wasnt doing over 100, they may just leave you as you have no history

no. my friend has been stopped at around 105 and they had some pilot scheme where they made him look at pictures of crashed cars instead of fine and points!

dont get your hopes up

took them nearly 6 months to summon me. If you've been given an NIP (a little tiny slip of paper that says notice of intended prosecution) at the roadside, they can take as long as they want to summonse you.

you can plead guilty by post, but its advisable not to. I was caught doing 107 late at night. I attended and pleaded guilty. I admitted it and explained i had no justification for my actions. I was fined £70 and got a 28day short term ban. Given i allready had 6 points on my license at the time, this was VERY leanient. And largely down to the fact i attended court, pleaded guilty, admitted everything and turned up well dressed.

when the clerk spoke to the magistrates, he asked them to consider the fact that i had the "courtesy to attend". I'd been told before hand it goes for you if you turn up, but he just confirmed it for me. If you dont turn up, the magistrates will think you dont care, you dont take it seriously, and possibly punish you as hard as the guidelines will specify for your offence.

and they're correct. Anything over 95 the copper has the power to send you to the magistrate. The only way you'll get off going to court, is if the copper pulls you over and only gives you a fixed ticket and 3 points. But as the one who pulled you over was on the harsh side, thats unlikely to happen now

you may just get this punishment, if you turn up at court and plead guilty and apologise for your actions, and think of some legible reason why you were driving this way. The magistrate may take it easy and offer you 3 points. No way of predicting what the magistrates will give you, but dont squirm out of it, own up to it, and pray they are nice to you. The magistrates make the fine / ban / points up as they go. They could give you 3 points, they could give you 6. No way of knowing.
