Exactly. Most insurers require the policyholder to be the main driver. This is becuase the risk is normally rated on the person who uses it the most. As you are the main user, the risk should be rated on you instead, and you should be paying a lot more.

How do you know this?

He could be the main driver on his dads policy?

He could only use the car occasionally?

Or he could be technically breaching the terms of his contract.

Either way does it really matter...

I take it you don't mind paying thousands of pounds over the years to insure your car properly whilst other people get away with paying a fraction of what they should, pushing our premiums up, becuase they do things like that?

Your choice I guess, annoys me though :)

true but loads of people do *** i'm doin this is nothing to do with that! i will accept the points and fine, aslong as it doesnt affect my insurance very much, thats whats important!

I did it myself, so no it doesn't one bit thank you :p Worked out perfect for me.

Just be the principle driver for that car on your dad's policy, shouldn't put the price up. Then people carn't slate your for being a named driver :)

You don't get the "same service" though, as 1) if they find out in the event of a crash, they may not pay out, and 2) you aren't accumilating any NCB, your actually just delaying paying a shedload for insurance.

And the word is "think" not "fink".

apologies for grammar, yes but still i'm getting insurance thats what me and the majority of other people think! its always the same for new young drivers, unless their rich, they want cheap insurance and therefore they become named driver!

Well unless it is stated in your policy that you are the driver who drives the vehicle the most, you are technically commiting insurance fraud, which if caught is far more expensive than just paying for your insurance.

Personally I did it the correct way round when I was 17. If you can't afford to insure your own car, you can't afford to be on the road IMO.

I'm outta this thread, can't be bothered to go through it again but I'll leave with the comment that if you can't afford to insure it in your own name chose something cheaper.

What has all this got to do with his speeding ticket though really...

Oh I forgot, it's ocuk :o

/Rant:-
I think if you write a letter to the police using your excellent grasp of the english language you're bound to get off it. I find it lazy to post with such txt speak and it just makes it more difficult for us to read!

Back to your OP I would suggest that you just take the points and heed this as a warning. I managed 14 years of driving without a single point but got my first 3 13 months ago due to a lack of concentration when building up speed when I pulled onto a dual carriageway!

35 in a 30 is a bit tight isn't it, I mean I'd be cheesed off at that. You might aswell speed by a good margin if they are going to do you for 5 MPH over FFS and make the speeding fine worth it.

1) Bad luck on getting caught speeding. Keep a bloody good eye on your speedo for the next 2 years. This includes no showing off to your friends. Get caught and say goodbye to your licence. It CAN happen and it WILL happen if you're not careful. If you're going to speed, please be 100% aware of the consequences and take the punishment on the chin if you get caught.

2) Learn the English language.

3) "Insurance fronting" as it's known in the legal world will treat you with many visits from your insurance company's solicitors if you have a crash. I speak from experience. :)

4) Consider purchasing a GPS speed camera detector, maybe one intergrated into Sat Nav if you can afford it. You really need to take precautions unless you don't mind losing your licence. Also don't forget about red lights, with more and more RL cameras going up, you could just as easily lose your licence for running a red light. :)
