A short 2 min clip by Ira Glass. Says it all really.

I am going through that still, and that clip puts it down what i have been feeling all this time. Although my work has moved on a lot in the last 2 years i feel it isn't matching my ambition yet. I have this goal and ambition, images in my head that I want to see for real. Those are not in print yet and those are yet to be made. Every project I want it to be better than the last one, every shot i want it to be another level and I will get there!

wow that was awesome. i think i have only just entered into that feeling. its so hard to explain that feeling to people and that video makes it sound so simple. thanks so much for posting that.

It applies to all things creative, not just photography.

That's what I mean, almost all the things I enjoy doing are in some way creative and what it says just rings very, very true. Whether it be drawing, writing, taking photographs or design work the process is very similar. I have in the past and still do find that with many things it is easy to become bogged down because what in my head I wish to produce just doesn't flow from my fingertips (in the case of drawing/ design).

lol, is it wrong that I've given up then? :D I'm just content being a happy snapper, I can't see myself ever being anymore than that and have come to terms with it :)

^^^
If your still a happy snapper then you haven't given up, in fact your snapping away for the right reasons, and gradually learning and improving your hobby.
When people notice your work and request your services, all it would take is for you to say "yes", and who knows, slowly but surely this hobby may become your career if you want it to.

Good video, and sums up perfectly how I feel at times with my photography.
Problem is, how do you wade through "volumes of work" if your present lifestyle/job is time demanding ? Hats off to those who take the risk of making a clean break and transforming their hobby into a career.

You sleep less, don't go to the movies, make time and fight through it lol

I always get stuck in the "I suck" rut, then I'll actually get some time to myself and with no pressure I find I start moving forward again, then I have to go back to work, my internet goes pear shaped, the gym takes up my time and when I'm not there I'm too tired!

It's a pain in the rear constantly being interrupted by the work you don't want to do, and the real life things that constantly get in the way :(
