Spending too much time on my computer.

Thanks a lot guys for the awesome replies! I'm glad that I'm not the only one in this position.

I know exactly what you mean , find some tasty pasty and ..... it

College can't come fast enough...

To the OP - Ideally, what would you like to be doing instead?

This is where I am stuck. I should play my music more often, practice my languages, get some exercise. But like you guys say I am just a lazy teenager.

I remember 20 years ago when I was a kid that I used to spend 80% of my free time outside my home playing with neighbour kids or playing in the park. I used to feel so much freedom and used to have such a good time. But times have changed so much. Now there is quantity in life but not much quality

Yeah I remember about 5 years ago I lived on a farm on the New Forest and I was out and about on my bike everywhere. Knew the place like the back of my hand and there was never a dull moment unless it was raining. But then I moved to the city and although it was great to start with, the novelty wore off quickly and these past 2 years in school have been really quite boring. It's alright going to a couple of parties and getting smashed but increasingly more of my mates just get wasted every weekend. So I just stay at home.

Don't sweat it!

Enjoy your days in front of the PC and doing whatever it is you want or can be bothered to do. Soon enough you won't be able to do any of this for various reasons.

I only felt like this when I played MMORPG's. Now, I just do the odd browsing and be out. Keep yourself active, take up a hobby or something.

You say don't sweat it but I have my parents on my back about getting of the computer more because they are threatening to stop paying for my music lessons which I really enjoy. And various other things. I am going to be buying a new PC this summer because I have had the same 8 year old Dell lappy for 3 years now and I can't play a single game newer than 2004 so I am excited about that. Basicly I need to earn myself some dosh and go do stuff. In fact I would say money is a limiting factor here. I would be out doing all sorts of stuff if I had the money. Just everything takes effort which I don't seem to have.

I have a goal! I'll leave the girlfriend one for college in a few months. Unless I meet someone this summer but whatever.

What do your music lessons involve; do you play an instrument?

Violin lessons but I play some folk with a mate each week for a few hours. I play bass too but that's a casual thing and I haven't found a band yet. Maybe at college! :D

Go busking :D

Me and my mate are going to do 2 weeks of that after I come back from Glastonbury festival! Should earn a good amount too. He earned 17 quid in half an hour just to buy a couple of things the other day!

What are you doing to join a band? Go to a music store, look for advertisements, put up adverts, ring local instrument teachers and say you're a violin/bass player wanting to join a band.

Getting in a band would be great, you would meet new people, maybe write your own music, rehearse, gig, groupies! :p

I know the feeling.

I work on PC's for a living (web marketing, graphic work... blah blah)

I come home, and write for upwards of 2 - 3 hours a day on some days... But meh.

Yeah that's a really good idea actually. Thanks! Ok I'll go down to the music shop in a couple of weeks as I am away next week. I know a couple of teachers around and I'll look into it. I just need to write these down.

I'll do that in a few hours as I need to get back to school for my music exam now.

Thanks again!

Seriously, get a girlfriend. I never really bothered with girls up until about a year ago, not worth the hassle and all that, but now we're old enough that girls actually put out ;) and are a lot less bitchy, I've noticed that I get out and socialise a lot more. I'm still a bit of a facebook addict, but that's not too bad since it allows me to keep in touch with friends that I probably won't see much now I've left school. I don't find myself addicted to games any more though which is good, and if anyone asks you to go out, don't pass up on it. The funniest things happen when you don't plan them to, so just go for it :)

I swear you might as well just say "get a friend"

All the same thing apart from there is a little more 'love'. Of course the younger you are the funnier it is as it always is drama ;)
Though you might have a better time with your 'guy' mates anyway

Yeah I need a break from my regular mates to be honest. I'll hang out with them later in the summer but I'm off to see some old mates I haven't seen in ages.

And yeah I could never really be bothered with girls because I just look at my friends who are in relationships and I just have to LOL. They're always getting a new girlfriend and the few who have been with each other for a while just seem to be behind the bike shed every chance they get. Dunno really but I'm defo looking to meet some new people at college.

Get a part time job or/and socialable hobby. Photography? Running? Maybe train at the gym.

I dont believe "get a girlfriend" is the right answer.

when i was 14-18 all i did was play computer games. there is a good chance i spent more hours on my pc than any other person on this forum at that period of time. to further clariffy this point i sometimes went to bed at 5 am, and got up at 5 pm, thus never actually seeing daylight at some points in the year!

i too thought i had to 'get out of this rut' and i slowly started to get away.

well let me tell you, i am back playing computer games at 24. and do you know why? because i ****ing enjoy it! and i am now at a stage that i am not ashamed to do it, or regretful of doing it.

my point in all of this? it is your life. you do what you want to do. you will never know what path is either good or bad for you. you can never know until you live it and find out whether its good or bad. at the moment you are doing something that you want to do, in my opinion, you have a ****ing good life pal :)

is it right u are just a bit confused at the moment? you think you should be doing something 'else'? maybe social conditioning into thinking you 'should' be out boozing wiht your pals? who knows.

Tell me about it!!! The internet is absolutley unreal! I'm constantly on the net! Pretty sad but i actually love it...i can see why China has set up internet addiction clinics!

I'm just saying what worked for me ;) Of course now I'd much rather be with my mates, but it was girls that motivated me into socialising a lot more and got me out of that rut of avoiding my friends just to play games. Which isn't a bad thing every now and then, I just think it's good to mix things up and get out. I've certainly had better days with friends than I ever had addicted to MMORPG's.
