Sperm donor...

How much is a shot?

From the Channel 4 Website:

Sperm donation

Sperm donation may not be your first choice for a future career but it is an easy way to make some quick money. You have to be fit, under the age of 40, able to perform when you walk into the clinic and have healthy sperm. But if none of those present a hurdle then you can pick up about £25 for each deposit.

Easy Money rating: 9/10 (Most guys do it for free anyway)

How to get involved: If you are a uni-student check out the medical faculty notice board, sperm banks often advertise there. Alternatively check out the yellow pages or the internet for a sperm bank or fertility clinic in your area.

Not bad eh?

I think a change in the law is actually a good thing. Imagine if you are a child from such scheme and you aint allowed to know who your dad is? iirc the law dont make you responsible for them i.e child support, maintainace etc. Just for records purposes only and to be able to identify the real father isnt?
What that also means is they could come find you in their later life.

Thats why I said the law would have to revert for me to donate.

I would, but the problem in this country is that the resulting children can now trace their father through the sperm bank so no wonder there is such a large drop.

Experts say that new sperm donor recruits started to dwindle in number during the run-up to a change in the law last year, which removed anonymity.

We all predicted this would happen but surprise surprise no-one involved with the law change would listen.

I'm assuming they would already have a loving family who took the egg donation. And no I don't want someone knocking on my door when they reach 18 if they suddenly find out I'm richer or they might be better off with me than their real parents.
Haven't you seen Ally McBeal

What are the chances of that happening? you have more chance of wining the lottery and stealing the crown jewel. :p

Personaly i dont see what's wrong with it - It should be a quick, easy 5mins job. No fuss no muss. I would like to think that im helping mankind in a way and on top of that im making lil bit of money for petrol...

The chance is still there and for £40 or whatever it is, its not worth it. I can make that money in many other simpler ways.

Yeah, but do you really think you gonna develop a bond with someone who just turn up at your door one day and say "Hello uncle Gilly, records show that you are my daddy"...? While i understand the duress/stress in might possibly cause, i still think the advantages out weighs the annoynimity reasons.

Why the **** would your "child" come find you if your their sperm donor?

Thats just daft, just because you cranked one out in a wee room for cash and to help others have children, certainly does not mean that you want anything to do with the person in future.

That law definately needs to change, sperm donors should be anonymous. Sounds like some law made to appease religous types to me. Governments should be free from religous constraints.

Your paintings of a case scenario is kinda dramatic :p First and foremost, they've called someone else daddy all their live and another person Mummy, I dont think that's gonna change after 18 years, i also dont see the bonding working anyway.

I dont know about legal stuff but im sure if im rich and some El-looking boy turn up at my door, i dont own him a penny.

maybe :p but i choose not to take the risk...
At least in the US you get paid approx $5000 for your trouble (injections, surgical proceedures etc) . In the UK you get sod all. It isn't worth it :(

I've of the same mindset as pretty much everyone else on here, i'm all for helping out couples in need etc but IVF treatment is also available to *single* women, what happens if the kid gets to 18 years of age and want to find his long lost daddy who he never knew because his mum didnt find a partner? Or likewise with same-sex couples who have kids. The child WILL be missing a mum/dad. If it were me, i'd be curious who they were.

No, I wouldn't develop a bond - and I wouldn't want to, thats the point!

Would be better if like they also hired women, you had to wear a special condom to collect the sperm, and you both had to do it. I think e ver man on the planet would jump at the chance :p

Maybe I'm just fanticizing :o
