Spider population boom?

I cant say I LOVE spiders but I certainly wouldnt hurt one or remove it from the house (unless it has the possibility to poison/kill me), they do us many favours by keeping the bugs and such away.

Im interested to know why many of you say you HATE them? What is it you dont like about them exactly? What do you think they are gonna do to you?

I hate them - so have studied them extensively (which helped a bit)

Still don't know what I don't like about them - I think its the boney 8 legs and the speed they move at. Funnily enough - I don't mide slow big spiders like tarantulas. Its the common house spiders in the UK that annoy me the most, simply becuase of the way they look & the fact I found a 3" one under my pillow at age 11.

Evolutionary psychology is the underlying cause for most peoples Arachnophobia (the 2nd most common human phobia from what I remember)
The fear is in-built in a lot of humans, much the same as the fear of snakes, reptiles, mice, fire, heights etc.

yeh i seem to be finding a lot more big spiders about especially around our house, i took this the other day of one. which i thought to be quite large! saying that i saw a false widow the other week in the garden..

That's a good shot.

Notice the main spider has just deployed a sentry unit (can be seen under the leg lowest-left). Looks as though it is about to go on recon.

I call those ones up there ^^ "Fred" Dunno why, always have since I was little anyway... I've noticed a severe lack of "Freds" this year all we get instead is them horrible white gangly leg looking mofos that look there their legs could fall off in a breeze.

I chuck them out the window now getting sick of them.

Need "Fred" to come and wtfpwn em all.

Yeh i think its a common house spider. although i haven't seen one so big, or one that i am able to notice the hairs on it before. It did indeed have a little baby spider crawling over it. I think it was for protection. i haven't found either in my room yet though! :p

YES, a definite outburst in the last few weeks...

The mrs is trying to blame me for crawling about in the loft, but alas I knew it wasn't me :p

I aint scared of them as such but when they are comming towards you all of a sudden i kinda move..

Few years back i was in bed under my duvet all snug and cosy reading a book when a massive spided crawled up and came towards me at lightning speed!

I remember back at christmas when there was one of them huge house spiders (like the one pictured above) on my wall above my bed. I went to catch it with a pringles can, and it scared the heck out of me by leaping off the wall, into the side of the tin and landing on my bed. It crawled off and that night i slept away from the bed...

i been hunting google for the most minging picture

I found lots of exotic foreign looking beasts but this one resembles the good old british house spider we all know and love :p

on another note..

JESUS CHRIST - watch this

Note it's a UK vid..

Finally, the reason why we see so many spiders around September is because it is the breeding season and the males are on the hunt for a mate.
