Spider Population Explosion?

I don't seem to get many in my house, but I have a yucca plant in the back garden which is covered in spiders for some reason. Some being quite big.

I've seen more of an increase in flying ants this year. I think they must be killing the spiders because we seem to have a lack of them.

Got some wasp killer, I would like to fire it but I'll probably set the house on fire. My issue with spiders is when I'm sleeping, imagine having one of those crawl into ya mouth :(

You're OK on that score. Spiders, like almost all animals, almost always avoid entering the mouth of any animal large enough to eat them. They know you're alive despite the huge difference in size. You breathe.

Had one of those long legged, small bodied spiders wake me up from slumber once... I was laying on my front when it scuttled up my back. Scared the living daylights out of me. I've never jumped out of bed so quickly. :D squashed it as I flung myself out of bed.

Come to Scotland, I've only seen one this year!

Funnily enough, I'm the same. Though, the sneaky little **** managed to get under the bed when I went to reach for a glass. Probably around 3 feet long by now, just waiting for me for the right moment. :( There's not much that bothers me, but spiders really give me the chills.

You think that's bad, have any of you come across a house centipede?! Damn those things look freaky as hell and they rocket across the floor/wall/roof. I try to catch them and throw them outside but the way they move makes it almost impossible not to kill them out of some instinctive form of self preservation

I don't know about an explosion, I don't blow them up that often :). I posted this hairy a while ago:

Is it me or is there a massive increase in spider numbers in the last month?

Its you.

Never kill them, pick them up and put them outside.

It annoys me when people kill house spiders, they are harmless.

I rescued a butterfly from a building yesterday grabbed both wings pushed open the doors and let it free. Thats my good deed done for the week!

Yeah. As awful as they look, they actively hunt and eat spiders, and other nasties in the house. So they're good to keep hanging around :p

Normally I'm not bothered but lots of them are the things with massive long spindly legs and a tiny body which creeps me out. The little scuttling fellas or the reasonably sized house spiders I tend to leave be.

I'm the opposite. I don't mind the spindly ones, but the larger house spiders really creep me out. I never hurt them, though.

Absolutely everywhere. My wife has a phobia and is driving me nuts. Bought those plug in deterrents, either that or me spraying down the whole house with Raid has helped (of course this stuff barely works anymore). They have infested the garden too! We haven't even gotten to the time of year when they invade in great number. I personally don't mind most of them - the giant ones creep me out though and they are quick too. One crawled out of my suit one morning while getting ready for work, I nearly died!
