Spider September, why why why

How about this then, a few days ago I was searching for a spider my girlfriend claims had ran into our closet/wardrobe. Searched for about 5 minutes to no avail, returned to the living room and was about to sit down when i felt a "tickle" on my arm. HUGE thing too. The sneaky ******* had hitched a ride on me while I was looking for him

STTOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

I wont bloody sleep now. :(

Spiders are legendary. They keep away other useless, irritating insects, and can hold onto your wall guarding your room like a badass. If they won't stay put I cup my hands around them and throw them outside. If they're REALLY big I pinch the body and get rid of 'em that way.

So if they're really big you touch them. You actually make physical contact. OK. I can't get behind that at all.

So then, this conckers thing, is it true spiders HATE them and wont go anywhere close to them?

Heard mixed reports about this. Might be an old wives' tale, but seeing as conkers are commonplace at this time of year you may as well try it out.

In my experience spiders have no fear of conkers. In fact I've lived in a cottage for 24 years with plenty of conkers knocking about the place and always had an abundance of spiders in the house.

Spiders are my favourite thing about this time of year:D

on another note, i still haven't found my loose p. irminia

Touching one is the action of a mad man!

This time last year we were having an extension built and new flooring installed throughout. Almost every night in September and early October at least two fist-sized spiders would come scurrying across the kitchen floor, normally in my direction. I would normally capture them under a big measuring jug then put them outside.

I got a cat recently and he's a brilliant early warning system. If he suddenly lurches at something my feet go straight up on a chair and I start scanning the room.

Does your cat not eat the spiders?
My cat used to eat everything that went near him, usually daddy longlegs or big house spiders.

How big? Had a couple avic avic a few years back, but they bite the bullet :(

Just seen a garden spider in the bathroom. Getting colder out, so spiders are heading in.

He employs the pounce and release technique. Each time he releases it it's escape is that little bit slower. Finally he'll eat the little ones and leave the massive ones in a crumpled heap. That's m'boy :D

Got a slight infestation of these

Spiders are nature's friends.
Got a mosquito problem? Mr spider will take care of it.
Same as blue bottles, midges or anything flying that'll wind you up.

The above is only relevant in England. The mega nasty, poisonous spiders of Australia are not your friend and cannot be relied upon.

This... Spiders are awesome, don't get everyone's issue, they are harmless?

It's an irrational phobia, it's not something that can be justified. I know perfectly well that the spider can't hurt me, and I could easily just squish it with a foot or hand, but yet they terrify me. I just can't go near them.

On a related note, I was watching a film in bed last night when I noticed a rather hefty house spider scuttle out from under my desk towards my bed. Luckily when I turned the light on it stayed still long enough for me to squish it with a guitar.

R.I.P. You terrifying *******!

Yeah I get phobias n that, but it's weird that so many hate them, wonder if it's nature or nurture driving it
