I don't understand why they cause such a hatred in me...their just legs and a squishy body. Fascinating things...just wish my toes didn't curl at the sight of one. That green one, mjt, has a beautiful colour! Those legs look an inch thick! Did you chase him to the bannister or something?

and that handrail is a good 6in wide

I'm surprised that thing didn't take the camera off you and hit you with it for disturbing it , that's the largest spider ive ever seen

Absolutely fascinated by them but they scare the bejesus out of me. I won't kill them but generally I can't share a room with one (knowingly) as I just go into wendy mode *shudders*. Watched "I've been bitten" last night and the chap who got bitten by the brown recluse ended up with a dinner plate sized open flesh wound, ye gods. Another chap got bitten by a Stiletto snake whose venom pretty much digested a third of his thumb (including the bone).

There is something truly comforting about the great island we live on sometimes
