Spielberg & Hanks 3rd WW2 series

Excellent enjoyed BoB and The Pacific to a slightly lesser degree but both were worth viewing ,but ive never had the urge to watch The Pacific again unlike BoB where i watched over and over again so as mentioned already hope its nearer BoB than The Pacific

i kind of hoped that they would have done a film or short tv series on Pegasus Bridge after BoB came out but it never happened

looking forward to this, loved both BoB and The Pacific.

Personally I think the mistake they made with The Pacific was too much fictional padding in Australia when they could have focussed on another person from Hugh Ambrose's book, like Austin Shofner who was taken prisoner by the Japs, forced on the Bataan Death March and escaped to rejoin his unit.

I've never seen BoB  I did start watching The Pacific and thought that it was great, but I ended up missing a few episodes so didn't get to finish it.

The Pacific wasn't terrible, just not as good as the bob. I couldn't connect with any of the characters was it's biggest problem

If you thought Pacific was great, watch it again with the missing episodes then watch Band of brothers. It will blow you away.

The Pacific was a very good series. Like it's been mentioned, not quite the same league as BoB but still good nonetheless.

This new one Spielhanks are making looks like it could be onto another winner.

The biggest problem was they used different directors for every eposide. It left the whole series being disjointed as each indivudual wanted to leave their own personal stamp.

Will look forward to this, but as pointed out, I hope it doesn't get too samey being in the bombers all the time.

As for a remake of The Dambusters, what would they call the Black Lab?!

BoB was the same though. Each episode had a different director. Hanks directed Episode 5.

I think the main reason it was disjointed was that the runtime was reduced from a full hour to 40-45 mins. That extra 10-15 mins could have been used to better develop the characters. Guadalcanal and Okinawa seemed to pass by in the blink of an eye, whereas they were very long drawn out campaigns, but we get practically 3 full episodes on Pelileu?

the reason for the "disjointedness" is that its two books (and basilones story) squashed into one series, rather than one clear consistant book

the three episodes of Pelileu will be because its the bulk of "with the old breed"
the austrailia bit that people also dislike is because its a large part of "helmet for my pillow"

however some seriously good parts (guadalcanal is excellent and the whole of the iwo jima episode is exceptional)

yes its not as good as BoB but its still very good

I want them to make a flim about the Russians which would be 9000 times more interesting then "Bomber boys"

Along the same lines I would like to see something about the Brits/Canadians/Others who fought in WWII, I'm beginning to wonder if anyone else actually took part in it...

The new one should be good, probably better tha Pacific if they mainly focus on one crew.

If only they would do something on the 8th Army or the Long Range Desert Group!

I agree, there is a completely different side to the war which we never hear about (the only film I can think of that related a Russian story in WW2 is Enemy at the Gates).

The bomber idea sounds like it could get boring, but I do hope that if they do it they show the German civilian side too, which it seems like it might do based on the link.
