Well just rented this from the video store, ganna watch it while I do abit of Uni work.

Anyone else seen this movie?

Heard it's very beutiful.

Ganna watch the others (howls moving castle, steamboy) at a later date.

All the Studio Ghibli films are well done, just some stand out a lot more than others :) I've got the first 4 in the collection arriving early this week sometime :)

Spirited Away is great :)

Although you may want to watch it a couple of times to pick up on more of the details :) (and if you like Spirited Away look for Princess Mononoke, Laputa, Whisper of the Heart and Porco Russo)

What are the details?

mainly visual stuff :)

I tend to find I enjoy a lot of films more the second time round, especially with the more detailed anime where there can often be things you don't spot at first (because first time round you're paying more attention to the main action).
It's the same sort of reason I like a good dub as when watching subbed you can miss a lot of details.

This thread reminded me to do something i've been meaning to do for a while, i just ordered the R2 UK SA and Grave of the Fireflies DVD's (£6 and £9 respectively).

I thought it was pretty average actually. Everyone seems to be saying its 'amazing' etc. I'm not saying it wasn't good. Its just nowhere NEAR as great as everyone makes out.

Had it been an american film, no one would have hyped it so high.

Still watching it, near the end now I think.

This movie is amazing.

The animation is amazing and some of the animals and stuff is awsome.

Love the little mouse that get's flown about by the bird.

Will post again once I am finished.

I'm not what you'd call an anime fan in general(although you can argue about how anime Spirited Away and the like are) but I thoroughly enjoyed it almost despite myself, it isn't a particularly complex story but it is beautifully told. A gorgeous film overall which I don't see how anyone could take much of a dislike to, Howl's Moving Castle was pretty good as well I thought although I didn't get into it as much until maybe 2/3 of the way through :)

I think it's a good film, but only in the same way Disney films are. Some people seem to be so obsessed with this, even though they'd never dream of admitting to liking a Disney film for any reason other than nostalgia. But I guess it's automatically a different genre because it's made in Japan

I'm actually into anime myself before any thinks I'm bashing it. It's just I find it strange that some people seem to like any sort of film from thriller to rom-com just because it's an animation from Japan.

Yay, someone finally added to the point I made ages ago! I thought I was the only one who thought this....
