I think it's a good film, but only in the same way Disney films are. Some people seem to be so obsessed with this, even though they'd never dream of admitting to liking a Disney film for any reason other than nostalgia. But I guess it's automatically a different genre because it's made in Japan

I'm actually into anime myself before any thinks I'm bashing it. It's just I find it strange that some people seem to like any sort of film from thriller to rom-com just because it's an animation from Japan.

maybe some people like the animation style? that's what got me into it first. not the storylines. luckily for you, it doesnt make any difference to your life why people like anime. so what if they only like it because it's from Japan? that doesn't stop you liking it.

Yeah people can be into whatever they want. I just find it a little odd thats all. And I did like spirited away, but I wouldn't have gone out of my way to watch it. It's not really the type of anime I'm into.

Nothing to be too ashamed of, it's a reasonably good anime, and is aimed largely at the young male demographic (which explains a lot about some of the costumes worn, and character designs).
It's got quite a nice ending, unlike many of it's ilk ("harem" anime), where the ending is very open.

yeah, you can kinda tell it's aimed at males - though she'd get on my nerves after a while - still, the main thing is that it made the o/h all clingy a cuddly...not a lot that's better than that!! might have to pick up the next installment!!

I really like it, it is a beautiful heart warming tale :) Howl's Moving Castle is brill as well, works abit more on humour than SA.I want to eventually get the whole studio ghibli collection, but never have enough spare cash!

I picked this up for £5 from HMV a couple of weeks ago, and was blown away by the animation. The story telling is also amazing and so engrossing compared to other films where I find my attention waining at times.

I watched Princess Mononoke a couple of months beforehand but found Spirited Away better - most likely because of the storyline. Spirited Away has got a fairly Western plot to it though I think - a more linear one than some other Anime films I've got.

I like deep storylines and violence. Doesn't have to be particularly gory violence though. I like Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Hellsing, stuff like that.

have you seen Vampire Hunter D? or Shadowskill? Vampire Hunter is awesome.

Yeah got vampire hunter D. Not the new bloodlust one though. Head of shadowskill but not seen it.

Watching Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind at the moment and it's actually quite good. Probably closest in Comparison to Princess Mononoke than any other Ghibli film. Oddly enough i find myself drawing comparisons to Guyver as well  (One of my all time favorite manga/animes)
