Just to let you know matey, I had no part in the SPL thread getting locked down twice in the space of a week and I have no idea what the reasons where behind both lockdowns.

While not having club specific threads, what about splitting the SPL into two groups and keeping the Old Firm apart as that is what invariably sparks the hassle. A simple alphabetical split down the middle with thread entitled SPL 1 and SPL 2. Just an idea.

That'll not stop anything. As people will still post in the 'wrong' thread, just to get a reaction.

What you need is an SPL thread, where people don't react and don't respond to any posts which are made to deliberately try and antagonise them - and instead just RTM the posts they have problems with. If people can't do that, then there's no point trying to start new threads.

What you need to do is take a hardline approach and ban anyone that can't stay within the rules.

Either that, or revoke their SA access.

It's been requested on numerous occasions (both on & off the forum) that the childish bickering, name calling & general bad attitude of a minority is stopped as it just creates a bad atmosphere for those who don't wish to get involved in that sort of behaviour.
That behaviour is also putting people off from posting in the thread.
We can't just carry on the way it's been going.

There have been two individuals on the old thread who always tried to get the rise out of me and I'm ashamed to say that it did work a few times. On the occasions where I bit, I always ended up on the wrong end of weeks ban but they got away with it.

There has been continual name calling and I have complained about it on several occasions and nothing was done. Complaints, no matter whether you feel it is valid or not, should at lest warrant a reply otherwise people will invariably react to goading if the perpetrator is not dealt with or they are not told there is no case to answer. I am happy to have a new thread that is properly policed and offenders dealt with harshly.

I would ban the regular offenders from the Football Stadium.

Leave the normal (well as normal as you can get being Scotish :p) to it

They either are mature and have decent football debate, or lump it.

I can assure you that's not the case, in fact some members have claimed the exact opposite asking why they've been banned and you haven't on occasions.
The SA Dons don't read every post so sometimes it's only RTM's that get actioned, the RTM's are always dealt with as seen fit.

Contrary to popular belief we don't really want to ban anyone from here, it would be much better if they would just play nice.

Can't say I'm surprised to say the least, having a genuine debate and discussion in the original SPL thread with yourself Eddie and some of the others(yes the gers fans) was terrible at times.

Myself and a select few didnt lower ourselves to such a level in which some of you have acted and the SPL thread has been revoked because of this.

Can't say I'm entirely surprised at this since I only came on to post today about the potential Takeover at Rangers and I assume it went into meltdown over the Old Firm result etc.

That was the main reason I hadn't posted in the thread for a while, there was honestly no point in trying to start a heated yet friendly debate.

Good call by the mods tbh! :)

If the people are constantly posting with the intention of causing a problem ban them.

I know you don't want to ban people, but sometimes you have to a spring clean and remove the rubbish.

I'm sure most of the people in the thread were fine and dandy and it's a small minority, remove the problem posters.

I'd think maybe next season we could try again with an SPL thread if the moderators agree but so far it hasn't been a resounding success, even after multiple warnings and the fact that the previous seasons was closed for the same basic reasons there were still posters using the same tired terms and baiting others as before.

I'd think it would need to be close to zero tolerance if it were to be reintroduced at all - any use of terms for fans or clubs other than say those you'd get on the BBC sports reports would be an automatic suspension, any references to a clubs history (particularly non-footballing matters) would not be allowed etc - after a set number of offences your rights to post in an SPL thread or maybe even the Sports Arena itself would be revoked. It's frankly embarrassing that such measures should even need contemplated but unless we, as Scottish football fans, can prove that we're capable of having the thread without such strictures then for the benefit of all there should be no such thread.

If you and any other contributors can come up with a fair set of rules that you'd all like to adhere to then there's no reason why another thread can't be started.
Those rules would have to be outlined in the OP and to keep it open it would need the help of the members in moderating it in as far as pointing out the rules to anyone breaking them and RTM'ing (or PM'ing in your case) any problems.
Everyone can start with a clean sheet, but with 1 life.
If they choose to ignore what's been laid and out they'll have their SA access removed.
Banter & discussion is what it's all supposed to be about in here :)

I for one would welcome the return of the SPL thread, and would be only to happy to help in whatever way I could if this aided its return.

The last one was got so bad because ( IMHO ) basic, cheap, banter got taken way out of context. It's just a game at the end of the day and so long as we all remember that, so much the better for the survival of any future thread on the merits or lack thereof of Scottish Football.

i think that may be harsh for anyone who broke the rules unknowingly. im sure the dons know who the main culprits are anyway. i think they should be maybe banned for a month? its long enough for them to think about what they did and not to repeat their offence.

You could sort that by having the rules in the first post of the thread (as in the Random Pictures thread) - if anyone pleads ignorance of the rules after that then I've got little sympathy for them, if you're willing to post in a thread without getting even vaguely acquainted with it then you run the risk of unfortunate results.
