SPL Thread Rules Discussion

You could sort that by having the rules in the first post of the thread (as in the Random Pictures thread) - if anyone pleads ignorance of the rules after that then I've got little sympathy for them, if you're willing to post in a thread without getting even vaguely acquainted with it then you run the risk of unfortunate results.

yes i know i already mentioned that in the thread that got locked, there are at least 2 or 3 people who get banned in that GD thread every other day. im just saying that a complete ban is over the top.

I've got no particular preferences whether it's based on a simple system of 1st offence = 1 days suspension, 2nd offence = 1 weeks suspension and 3rd offence = banned from SA for life or whether it is a straight up ban from SA after any transgression. I suspect that moderators would use their discretion in the case of someone who was posting in the thread for the first time and made a mistake but either way just like a prize competition their decision is final.

Without thinking about it too hard I'd reckon that the following might be suitable as a basis for the rules and I'd welcome any suggestions.

1) Treat other posters with respect. Do not belittle their club or use unflattering nicknames for either the poster, their club or anyone associated with the club including players - if you're in any doubt then don't use the phrase or email a moderator prior to use.

2) The SPL thread is only for discussion of footballing matters - you may feel strongly about something your club has done in the past or something another club has done but this is not the thread to discuss it in.

3) Don't bait other fans in an attempt to get them to respond insensibly, that's covered by the general prohibition against trolling - if you do this then you can expect repercussions.

4) These rules are simply an extension to the standard Football Stadium rules here, they still apply so do yourself a favour and make sure you're acquainted with both sets before posting.

5) Try to enjoy yourself and let others do the same. It's unfortunate that the rules need to be spelled out in such a fashion but we don't want to see anyone banned because of a lack of clarity.

There's been no objections (or additions) to those rules so if you want to start a new thread with them in the OP that'll be fine.
We can start with a clean slate for everyone but it won't be allowed to turn in to the wreck it had become last time so if members want to post in it they'll have to stick to those rules :)

Bumpski, before we enact the additional rules in the SPL thread, can anyone who has any interest in the SPL please have a look and comment.

I'd like to see another rule added on the changing of names of players/teams to form a petty insult (a few people are guilty of this), it looks very childish.

Sounds like a fine idea to me, it is already partially covered under rule 1 but that could be extended easily enough - in fact I'll edit just now to see if that's any better. If necessary then we may have to go to no nicknames whatsoever but for the moment the names used on the BBC website should be ok even if they are nicknames.

Any of the Dons or Eddie fancy editing the rules into the first post in the new SPL thread so people don't have any excuse if they're not following them?

First post edited to clarify the situation regarding the rules. McRod is the first to break rule 1 but I have asked him to stop it. Let's see if we can keep things civil gentlemen.

Perhaps a short instruction to read the rules could be added to the actual thread title? It would remove any possibility of pleading ignorance.
