Splinter Cell HD Trilogy

Have you actually played it yet? :p

Good question, and judging from his earlier comments, no, he hasn't played it on PS3 yet. I've never seen someone trash a game so much without playing it, he's basing everything he says from a youtube video.
I just finished playing Pandora tomorrow and thought that it looked great - especially compared to the PS2 version.

To be honest, Sonic, it seems like you're just trolling now. Go play the games and if you still think they look awful then fine but stop acting like an authority on it when all you've done is watched a youtube video.

They've retouched this one in HD using the PC version and it's really good. It doesn't have the graphics of modern titles but it's not ugly and unplayable and it doesn't look as though it's just been stretched to 720p. I can say this because I've played (and completed 73% of the trophies) Pandora tomorrow and just started Chaos Theory which looks even better than Pandora. The point is - I've played (or am playing) them.

Not sure why I didn't get the first game, I loved them all when they were originally released but Pandora and Chaos are my favourites. Still, I'm enjoying them so much I think I might as well get the original.

The guy from "The Unit" (a great show that was cancelled way too early :( ) is brilliant as Lambert in Pandora and it's a shame they didn't get him again for Chaos.

By the way, Killswitch - you're on my friendlist (Simiad) so you can compare trophies with me for bragging rights :p

I'm sorry, but please don't tar me with that brush. I'm sick and tired of these "HD remakes" which is nothing but the standard game running in a higher resolution. I haven't insulted anyone, posted anything derogatory, or tried to start any form of argument whatsoever and why would I when I'm just stating an opinion, which if you don't like reading you're welcome to read something else or click the log out tab. I'm a huge fan of Splinter Cell and was hoping looking at the obviously touched up screenshots that the HD version of the game was going to look a little better than just the old version running in native HD. Why can't somebody judge graphics from a HD video captured at source? Are you saying the graphics in a video, captured directly from the source and recorded in the same resolution will be in any way different to the output on the screen? The way you make out its as if they've captured the video with a phone camera.

As I stated in an earlier post I will still actually buy the Ps3 version anyway when it appears on disc because 1), I'm a huge Splinter Cell fan (except Conviction) and 2), I want to play the original in proper widescreen - something that is no longer possible with the original game thanks to the recent 360 update and £30 is not an awful lot of money to be able to do that and still enjoy three great games imo.

So, as I said, please don't tar me with that brush. If I wanted a flame war or to converse with trolls I would simply head on over to Ign and sign up or visit another popular videogame website as there seems to be plenty of uneducated adolescents over there. Overclockers although not perfect has generally always been of a more mature nature to me and a little bit more exclusive as it's less well known to the masses of trolls and fanboys out there, and I enjoy chatting to fellow adult gamers about related topics we have an interest in, even if we don't always agree on the subject itself.

No, you're right. I was a bit harsh, sorry. It's just bugging me that you're complaining about the HD'ness of it when here I am playing them and never once have I thought, 'ewww that's an ugly low rez wall / face / thing', I'm just having such a blast actually playing the game that it hasn't cropped up as something that should put me off playing.
I'm sure that you agree with me when I say that Splinter Cell is so rich in gameplay and that's what makes it such a great game. When you say the things you're saying it could put people who haven't played a real Splinter Cell game off and stop them buying this just because the graphics aren't of the Killzone 3 calibre. This would be such a shame for people to possibly miss out on Splinter Cell for such a petty reason. If they did buy them then the graphics wouldn't even come into it as I'm sure they'd have a good time playing.

The thing is though that I do think you're wrong. I think that more work has gone into these than you're crediting the devs with and they look damn nice compared to their originals. Besides, the game is mostly played in nightvision where all of this is moot :p

PSN is Simiad - add me so I can heckle you while you're playing games ;)

That's ok mate, as I said I meant no offence. You are spot on about the gameplay though, Splinter Cell has always been my go-to stealth game of choice for that reason, and despite my niggles with the Hd-ness of it all I'm still looking forward to getting the boxed version regardless so that I can enjoy the games again in native Hd. You are right, its the gameplay that really counts.

Is there any multiplayer included in this HD remake? I remember Pandora Tomorrow having some absolutely epic multiplayer moments back when I played it on the PC :)

nah they didn't include MP which is a real shame, I loved it on the pc version. I don't really understand why they cut it. I'd be happy to pay a couple of quid extra for a rebuilt MP, especially if it had co-op a'la Conviction (best part of conviction imo)

How much netcode would they have to re-do? Traffic is traffic surely, once you've built the interface between Live and the game, I'd have thought the rest would be straight forward.

Plus seeing as it was like 2v2 or something, you wouldn't need servers - peer-to-peer would be sufficient :)

Missed a trick in my opinion, would've persuaded me to purchase if it had coop, could've got some friends in on it too :(

Even if they couldn't include an online mode a split screen mode would have been alright, I'd be happy with that. I'm sure either Pandora or Chaos Theroy had split screen co-op?

It would have had to be re-built and go through all the QA to run on Live though, which is probably more effort than it's worth when most people just want it for the single player.

so is the first one really worth buying?

Most definitely. They are all worth every penny. Graphics might not be up to the latest current gen game standards, but even the originals look great, and its the gameplay that counts, Splinter Cell has always been awesome in that department. In short, buy with confidence or wait like me for the boxed version due out next month at £29.99.

Yeah, I hate to say it but it pretty much sums up what I said, albeit in a more technical fashion. If you have a 3dTv it may be worth it though as it would be cool to play the games in 3d. It would also be worth it if you don't own the originals. They did seem to like Chaos Theory a lot too.

hmm, I have all three on Xbox which I could play on the 360, guessing there's very little difference between the Xbox and PS3 versions?

I'd agree with most of what that review says. I've played the crap out of PT and CT, but as I keep saying - it's not always about the graphics. I bought these even though I own the PC versions (although PT and CT usually crash to desktop for me on Win 7 so it's not like I can play them) I have still had great fun playing these on PS3 and having the chance to earn trophies is a nice bonus.
The thing with that review is that it only talks about graphics and if graphics are the sole reason to buy a game then that's sad.
