Splinter Cell HD Trilogy

I only purchased SC1 so dont know what the framerate is like on the other two but i can definately tell when it dips. Just expected it to run 60fps+ constantly. Don't know if its just me to be honest but highly doubt it. Got a fat model PS3 plugged into a Dell 24" monitor through DVI and I dont have problems with other games. It Seems to happen whenever there is any of the fancy lighting effects shining through windows/lights etc. Still enjoy playing it though!

They've done more that that... I would seriously wait till you get the games to make comments on how they run and look. Obviously they don't look fantastic compared to modern games, but they've definitely improved. and the price is a bargain, especially for us who haven't played the originals all the way through

I've seen the Hd footage of the games and have the originals so I know how well they run and look mate. I still think the original SC games look great, maybe not up to current gen standards but definitely bordering on 360 launch title quality (especially Chaos Theory and Double Agent on the original Xbox). As I said I will buy the boxed version anyway, but am frustrated by the lack of polish.

I would like to see a fully remastered version of Splinter Cell Essentials. I had that on Psp a few years back and it was a decent game - the only thing that ruined it somewhat was the Psp's lack of a second analogue stick - something that could easily be rectified with today's controllers.

Never played chaos theory. Is it the best one in the series? Only played the first one on the original xbox.

I enjoyed Pandora the most, but Chaos Theory is very good as well and is generally considered the best by many. Truth be told they're all good (except Conviction).

As a kid I always found it difficult not to run in and shoot the place up. Now I'm older I should have more restraint and get past the first 10 mins :p

Preferred this over Metal Gear Solid myself.

The thing about the first 3 games is that sam fisher has much more character, from double agent onwards they stopped writing witty scripts for him.

Been playing the original Xbox version of Double Agent this morning. The graphics are excellent (even hold up reasonably well today), the story is much more coherent than the 360 version and the stealth is more focused. I highly recommend anyone who likes the original first three Splinter Cell games to give it a go - even if you've played the 360 version as its a totally different experience and has much more in common with the older (and imo better) Splinter Cell games.

I think Splinter Cell needs some kind of reboot now like Lara Croft is getting.

Well Conviction was supposed to be a reboot....shame it sucked. I dont know how well it sold - hopefully not very well, in which case they might go back to the drawing board.

Will definitely get this once it hits retail. Always loved a challenge on these games, check out some of these Trophies though: :o

Splinter Cell:
Stealth Operative
Complete all missions without raising alarm even once.

Immune
Complete the game without using a single medikit.
Urban Legend
Complete the game without dying more than 5 times.

Quick-draw
Complete Kalinatek mission using only 5.7mm Pistol.

Non-existent Target
Complete Oil Refinery mission without losing health.

That's just the 1st one, i'll have a look at Chaos Theory and Pandora Tomorrow in a bit. :p

Yep, I hated Conviction, it wasn't Splinter Cell (only in name). What it actually was was Gears Of War starring Sam Fisher. Stealth was non-existent and in each level there were many places where you simply HAD to be seen to progress. Me and a mate played the game each, I used stealth (or tried to) and got killed pretty quickly, he ran through the level in record time guns blazing. Couple that to the fact the pistol has infinite ammo and the millions of guns and explosives, and that tells you all you need to know. I mean seriously, why do you need explosives in a STEALTH GAME? As for the gun, it should only ever be used to take out lights and as a last resort when cornered and there is certainly no need for lots of them, just the Pistol and Sc20k is all you need if you MUST use them. You can't use the roll move or even hide the bodies anymore ffs. If I wanted to play an action game I'd fire up one of the millions that actually exist (and there are some awesome ones out there like the Gears Of War, Uncharted, Dmc or Ninja Gaiden series to name a few) but this is supposed to be SPLINTER CELL, not Gears, or any other action game. I don't think Splinter Cell was in any need of a reboot at all. I loved the way the series had stayed true to its roots throughout the four previous games (five in you count Essentials). All it needed was a bump in graphic polish which we got with the next gen version of Double Agent, and even the original Xbox games still look good today. Conviction would have been a great game if it didn't have the words "Splinter" and "Cell" in the title, but as it is they're ruined one of my favourite franchises and I can only hope the next game in the series goes back to actual Stealth rather than cover shooting.

Looks like you can plat it in a minimum of two playthroughs, some of the descriptions are a bit vague though like the ten split jumps. Can you do it in the same area 10 times, or does it have to be a different area? It doesn't explain very well but apart from the hard difficulty ones it shouldn't be too difficult. You could even put the game on easy to do the no alerts one which would pretty much automatically get the no medkits and no dying trophies as well, though I'm trying to get that in my first play on the regular difficulty.

I'm not into trophies/achivements at all, and would rather get my sense of achivement from beating the game or replaying it on a harder difficulty, but its a good little timewaster for those who are into them as it gives them more to do in the game if they really enjoy playing it multiple times.

For me it gives me things to aim for which I would never thought of doing before. Plus bragging rights too, though I don't really have anyone to compare trophies with so it's a competition with myself. :p

Yeah as I said I dont get anything out of them but I guess if you're a massive fan of the game and have completed it multiple times already I guess it can add replay value as long as the trophies/achivements are sensible ones like as an example "get through the first level without sounding an alarm" and not silly ones like "run for 200 metres" or "press start on the title screen" lol. I can remeber reading about some stupid Mirrors Edge achivement which involved running around in a circle for a set distance - what a boring meanial task! I must admit though they are good for seeing how far your mates have got on certain games.

someone tell me will this game look any better than when I played originally on PC at high resolutions and detail? well chaos theory and Pandora tomorrow...I played SC1 on PS2

I very much doubt it from the Hd footage I've seen mate. All they seem to have done is bump the resolution up to 720p but that is literally all.
