Splinter Cell

I absolutely love the Splinter Cell games. Even Conviction.

I remember playing the First Splinter Cell on the origional Xbox and being blown away by the graphics and gameplay but then I had a at the time monster gaming rig and played it on that and was even more blown away.

I am a massive sucker for stealth games and Splinter Cell hit all of my loves. It had cool gadgets, you could hide bodies, you could really play with the levels and try different approaches everytime you played.

Pandora Tomorrow took everything I oved and expanded it to even greater levels and included online multiplayer which rocked. Next game Chaos Theory which took the game to the next level again and looked gorgeous and played perfectly.

Then Double agent came out (only played on the 360) and I loved the new idea of choice, a central hub and the levels were expanded and really tested gameplay. It was great although not the best in the series however the online was fantastic and was easily my most played game on the 360 at the time

Then arrived Conviction. A completely different game. Hated by many and only liked by most BUT I once again loved the new direction and enjoyed it very much and the online co-op was awesome in every way. I loved the Mark and Execute mechanic however I was gutted there was less emphasis on stealth and for that reason it was not my favourite in the series but if they can take the best bits from all the games and make a new game (which I am sure they will) then they will make the best Splinter Cell ever.

Above all though.......Michael Ironside is a legend and that is what makes Splinter Cell consistantly amazing

Enjoyed conviction quite a bit, but layed it with only silenced weapons and takedowns. Otherwise its like gears of war badly made:)

The best SC was undoubtedly Chaos Theory, this game is one of the best games of all time imho. I would even put it ahead of any Metal Gear on which SC is based.

Cool games. I like MGS too but these are a different tone and I dig the voice acting.

Chaos Theory was my favourite. It was a cool expression of the sandbox gameplay thing. It did it very well. So many different tools and routes. The bank robbery level is an awesome example of this.

Awesome music too.

Amon Tobin did this adaptive music which the game mixed on the fly.

If you think about it, emergent gameplay is pretty chaos theory as is that music.

Didn't get along with Double Agent at all.

Conviction... I liked it but not as much as CT.

It's basically a rip off of 24 isn't it?

In Chaos Theory I felt like I was a ghost. I took pride in gliding through the levels with a minimum of force used. The occasional knifing and very occasional headshot. Conviction I went straight up Jack Bauer on them. It's a different vibe altogether :/

I enjoyed the SC games up until the latest one, which I haven't played. They do, imo, feel a little limited. You're funnelled down the game and have only a couple of viable options to succeed, if any choice exists at all. Still enjoyed the atmosphere though

chaos theory is the daddy. remember playing that with my EAX 3.0 creative sound card. lol top quality. double agent on PC was a crap console port.

am i right when i say chaos theory was made for pc's then ported to consoles?

I am a massive sucker for stealth games and....

Could you recommend some more good stealth games? SC Chaos Theory is nigh on unbeatable, I've also plyed some Hitman games (didn't really like them though - too much trial and error). Ninja games (like ninja Gaiden) were not about stealth at all... Deus Ex:HR is very good I thought. But are there any notable others?

Some people like Death to Spies but i haven't played it myself and Alpha Protocol wasn't too bad but only worth picking up in a sale.

Best SC is Chaos Theory yeah.....i only recently completed DA and got to do Conviction now which i doubt is better than Chaos Theory.

Loved the series but I always fear they are going to ruin it with the next one. I thought Conviction wasn't too bad. I did and still do quite enjoy Double Agent, I just wish it wasn't riddled with bugs which ruined what could have been an awesome game.

But favourite was probably Pandora Tomorrow. I loved the train level when you move up the train from outside. Was fantastic for when it was released :)

The thief series is available on GOG now - they are still awesome but old
