Splinter Cell

Could you recommend some more good stealth games? SC Chaos Theory is nigh on unbeatable, I've also plyed some Hitman games (didn't really like them though - too much trial and error). Ninja games (like ninja Gaiden) were not about stealth at all... Deus Ex:HR is very good I thought. But are there any notable others?

The only other series I could suggest would be Assassins Creed HOWEVER only the first one really counts as true stealth as the second onwards was IMO rubbish for stealth. You'd spend all your time setting up the kill on the target and once killed you'd be instantly detected and have to fight your way out.

Assassins Creed had so much potential and failed as a Stealth Assassin game. It was more action than assassination.

The new Hitman though looks fantastic and although you may not have liked the others in the series the new game seems to cater for all play types so pure stealth, all out gunning or a mixture depending on your playstyle

Yeah I really liked the first Assassins Creed, didnt bother with later ones.
So it doesnt look like I've missed any stealth games then - not that there are many: SC, Desu Ex HR, Assasins Creed1.

There was this Sniper game which had terrible reviews, and I 've not even tried it. But it was certainly stealth.

Must admit I am somewhat tempted by Conviction.

Its a very good game- in a different way from Chaos Theory, its more dynamic, but its still a very good stealth game if you choose to play it like stealth game.

As long as you play like this guy - it is very hard, but he completed the whole game using stealth.

The original "Sniper Elite" from 2005 is a great game. There is one called Sniper:Ghost Warrior which was not done by Rebellion - which is pants. The proper Rebellion sequel is out this year

You mean for stealth to work, you need to be cloaked all the time? Do the enemies automatically know your position if you shoot from behind a cover with silenced gun and them not looking?

Not sure if it's my system or Splinter Cell Conviction being poorly optimised for PC, but I'm getting poor performance on a Q6600@ 3.5 and GTX 570@ 880/1760/1910, 4GB ram, vista 32bit. Not exactly a bleeding edge system but SC Conviction is a couple of years old now so I'm surprised it doesn't run better.

I'm getting framerates that dip into the low twenties at times, this is at 1920x1200 res, strange thing is only reducing AA seems to have any affect on framerates. All advanced graphics settings such as HDR, Ambient Occlusion, realtime reflections, soft shadows etc make no discernible difference to performance whether set to high or completely disabled.

Anyone have any ini tweaks or other advice to get this game running better? quite enjoying the gameplay tbh, always had a soft spot for the Splinter Cell series.

I've played them all except the first one, oh and double agent.

Not really fussed tbh although chaos theory did stand out to me as being a bit better than the others.

Didn't particularly like what I played of them:

Pandora Tomorrow: Completed it, but it was very old fashioned in it's approach to some missions, causing instant failure if you get spotted etc. I much prefer games that e.g. make things harder if you get spotted but do not arbitrarily end your game just because you happened to poke your sleeve out as a guard was walking past. Felt like a chore playing through it. Voice acting was decent at least.

Splinter Cell: Seemed OK but I got stuck around the third mission and never really felt motivated to go back to it.

Got Chaos Theory, Double Agent and Conviction on Steam but haven't tried them yet. In general I am not a massive fan of stealth games, I'm quite fussy and like them to be a bit forgiving.
