Split Air con

Considering a split system for a garden office. It's getting over 28 deg in there even on mildly warm days when the sun hits even with all blinds down.

I bought a portable unit for £350 but its crap and cant tell its even on unless you stand next to it. Thinking to move that to the bedroom in summer and see if it fares any better.

What sort of unit do I need for a 5x4m room?

Im hoping would be relatively cheap to install as can just core drill straight through the wall. Also got enough room to mount the condensor right below the wall outside.

Is it a waste of time looking at used set ups?

Personally, I would purchase a new model so you have a full warranty.

2.5kw model should be enough - depending on heat load within the room.

Thanks will look around that size. I'm not sure how hot it's going to get when it's above 20 outside as it's getting to like 28 just on a mildly warm day. Shutting the pcs off helps but I don't really want to do that.

@norm think we will hold out and do that, we are going to to have a loft conversion in the future so would need to have a second internal unit. Have got some ceiling fans to tide over until then.

Also forget the core drill probably - the proper systems aren't actually exhausting air from the room so they don't need a big extractor duct like the portable units do, just a small pipe for the coolant and another for the condense

how is it getting so hot in the first place, is it solar gain from windows? If so, look at solar film too, amazing stuff.

sorry, just re read, if it’s PCs then yeah, air con or better ventilation needed

Both really. Double glass doors and 3 big full length windows, they have blackout blinds but doesn't help too much, but also 2x pcs running all day.

I'm looking for air con in my loft conversion, it gets very hot and stuffy during the summer and sleeping can be difficult with the windows wide open introducing noise etc as well.

The room is roughly 30sqm and I've been told I'll need a 4.5kw unit. I've been quoted £725 for the Mitsubishi MHI SRK45ZSP-W, 4.5kW and Samsung CEBU 5.0kW Standard Wall mounted with Wifi Connectivity for £950 excluding fitting (£400). Both have 7 year manufacturer warranties.

Is there a model that is popular/suitable that I should be looking at? Also the internal unit will be directly above the bed as it will be a back to back installation to the outside wall. Is there anything I need to consider with regards to noise/air blowing?

Are these easy install units without an engineer pretty simple? Are they worse units for any other reason or JUST easier to install?

I NEED to get something sorted this week its full on sauna now.

I think most of us here have had someone come in to install the units. If I were to do it all again, I would still pay Sub Cool FM to install mine.

There are plenty of video's on youtube about the self install route though!

So everything started going out of stock at an alarming rate last night saying nov or Jan 22 for delivery so I quickly grabbed this pack https://www.aircondirect.co.uk/p/86...er-and-condenser-wall-mounting-bracket-bundle

Don't think I need the mount but I was panicking there would be nothing left!

Looks easy enough to install looking at a few videos. I'm sure Ill be able to do it and just give the sparky a call to wire it in.

Being just a garden office with single thin wall it should be pretty simple. Only thing I hate doing is drying to mount anything on plasterboard.

I'd be happy enough to have ago fitting DIY but I can't see an obvious way to fit the drains, don't they need a constant fall to them both units I'd want the drain pipe to go up then along to outside.
