Split Air con

We have Daikin units and the app is fine... but I haven't used the Mitsubishi equivalent to be able to compare

The new Daikin app is much better than the old one too, the previous app was pretty average.

When we had Daikin the units were both more ‘stylish’ and industry leading in terms of noise, airfiltering and additional features. I think the playing field is pretty level now though.

Had mine ticking over last night and the one in my sons room as well stayed nice cool. I will say I has to switch mine off as it wasn’t getting that cool which was a concern but I opened the indoor unit up and hoovered all the filters and that made a massive difference I was pretty embarrassed to see all the dust in there to be honest!

When was the last time it was cleaned/serviced?

So glad I had AC fitted. It made a massive difference over the weekend and during the night I just set it to 23 and eco mode.
Does anyone know how accurate the electricity usage on the Smart M-Air app is?
I haven't needed to have them blasting, but if the app is reliable, it seems cheaper than I expected tbh considering the use.

This weekend/week, and seeing how compromised the portable AC units are, has just fortified the need for us to get at least two units on a split system in our house. No good cooling one room when the rest of the rooms are so hot they just heat up the cooled room again! Not to mention how noisy the portable units are - we have no hope of sleeping with it on, and when I run it in our computer room, headphones are required to hear anything!

Definitely do it. It's superior to the portable units in every way: easier, quieter, more efficient. We've had ours in a year now and I don't know how we coped without it, especially as it seems to be hotter more often in recent years.

Agreed,

Ours went on the first time last night as the heat was just oppressive, set it to 18 on eco cool an hour before bed, walked into a lovely cool bedroom and slept the night in absolute comfort.

Any thoughts - we are having a large rear extension done early next year and had originally wanted to get air con installed. We still will do other rooms but I'm unsure about the kitchen area, it will be roughly 30sqm in total with about 4m of bifold doors but there won't be a way to close it off from the stairs leading to the 1st floor. My thinking is the air con will struggle to cool the air due to the bifold doors and the fact it's 'open' to the upstairs and rest of the house?

It's also probably going to be 10x the cost of a single portable unit for the install so I'll need a little time to get that money together :D

Those portable units are just inefficient.
I still have an inventor chilly I bought last year (don't know what to do with it) but it was rubbish.
Yes it did cool the room eventually, but it took forever, cost more in electric, was really noisy and created negative pressure which just sucked warm air into the room again.
There was no way I could have slept in the same room.

Portables are better than nothing, I had mine for 10 years and it made the bedroom much more comfortable. But it has nothing on the split system that can get the room down to 18C with barely any noise and minimal electric costs.

I've caved in and just ordered a Meaco 12k portable, sadly splits will have to wait till next year. I will have to have a better think about F gas training, surely it must pay for itself with annual servicing on multiple units and installation?

I've not looked into but I believe F gas is very expensive, I stopped doing 134a systems when f gas came in as the company I work for said it was silly money.
Think we had one guy out of sixty plus that they sent on course for but he's since retired and you also have the collection/disposal issues.
