Split Air con

You get things like wifi control, the filtering is better, the included remote is far better, indoor units look much nicer, extras like 3D auto which cools the room dynamically over time.

It's one of those things, if you're going to the expense to fit this might as well buy the better stuff to start with.

I'd seriously consider a multi-split system, multiple outdoor units are an eyesore.

Hi Firestar_3x,

I've asked for multiple outdoor units as I may want to use heat and cold at the same time however rare the occurrence.
My mother is bedbound after having a stroke and heart attack. I've taken over her old upstairs bedroom and moved Mum downstairs for easier access for stretchers etc. I'm considering having these fitted so I sleep better overnight and she is more comfortable overall.

I've contacted the company and asked if they can offer any of the higher models with wifi and auto 3d etc and he says he'll re-quote shortly.

Would you be happy losing individual room control though? (Assuming most systems will rely on a single thermostat).
My impression was that with a ducted system you do still retain some control over the room temps as the vents into each room can be varying degrees of closed - the cool air being pumped is the same temperature across the board you just let more or less of it into each room

As it stands though in our current house we don't have individual room control - we have one unit in our kitchen/family room which mostly cools that room has a minor effect on the rest of the downstairs, and one big unit on our upstairs landing (townhouse) and because that is right above the turning stairs it does a good job of dropping cool air straight down the central column of the house where it spills off into the rooms - and there we gain some semblance of "room control" by just how much you leave the door of the room open. Works for us. But the new house isn't a townhouse and so I don't think that approach would be as effective, so would most likely end up with 4 ducted bedrooms, plus 3 standalone units for the downstairs rooms (kitchen, lounge + study) and then potentially in the future add a 4th in the garage (going to convert it into a gym)

Of course may not happen at all because we might not get the house! But trying to think ahead

Those seem to be the basic Mitsubishi units, I'd want the premium ones.

Are they fitting two outdoor units or a multi-split system?
I've received a revised quote to fit 2x 3.5kw "premium" mitsubishi systems for £3504 including VAT
Does this price seem ok?
Are Mitsubishi SRK-ZS-WF any better?
They seem to have wifi and vertical/horizontal swing

No idea if the price is competitive, but each unit is £1,121 inc vat to buy, so your call if you think ~£600 to fit each unit inc other parts is reasonable.

The premium units are much better than the bog standard stuff, those indoor units is exactly what I have.

Had another quote. for 2x35kw units to be fitted.
This time they specced 2x mitsubishi MSZ35's fitted @ £5040.00 inc VAT
Quite a difference in price
This company is saying they wouldn't touch the mitsubishi heavy industries units with a bargepole as the parts can be hard to find after 18 months ?

Sounds like BS to me, the Heavy Industries units are for business focused applications and have an excellent reputation, business will not tolerate lack of support or spare parts.

Further to the above i've had my units for 3 years and new spare parts are easily available.

First use of our air con yesterday so far this year. Made my gaming room lovely and comfortable and then about 10 minutes to cool down the bedroom. The new Daikin app is much better. Used a whole 0.3kWh! I forget how efficient these units are.

Our bedroom ac been on for about a month now, won’t be long before it’s on downstairs too. It’s already making a huge difference to the bedroom at night.

I am thinking of having the open plan Kitchen/Lounge area installed with AirCon. Area is 7m x 4m.
have been recommended by a local installer a "Panasonic 5.0kW Wi-Fi Wall Mounted Inverter R32 - KIT-TZ50-WKE" for £1900 + electrical work(which I have get an electrician to do.

Seems like Mitsubishi is the preferred make in this forum?

I have the older Panasonic Etherea in my dinning room / leaving area which has been working brilliantly and had 5 years warranty.

What sort of Kwh outdoor units are needed for an average 4 bed home? I've been getting quotes and some are 8-9kwh some are 12. Starting to get a bit of analysis paralysis here

Depends on room size. For a 3 bed and 5 units we have a 2.5kw unit for each room. Even in my small upstairs gaming room, with the extra heat given out, at the peak of last summer it worked hard.
