** spoilers ** English League Football [20th - 22nd November 2010]

Will he bother going back to Man Utd? Seems a little pointless, I think he's found his level at Sunderland.

Well considering it's not his decision as to whether he'll bother to go back to united or not I'd say he probably will

As for him finding his level the kid is only 19 years old, not many young players are the finished article at that age

The loan move is doing him the world of good so if he keeps it up I'll definitely want him back at old trafford next season

I just can't see him ever being ahead of Rooney/Berbatov/Hernandez/United's next buy, or being good enough to be a starter for Man Utd/CL level striker. I'd rather play week in, week out at a club like Sunderland than be a sub for anybody, at least for the next few years when he needs to be playing regularly

I think he can thank that great finish entirely down to my doubting him 5 minutes prior. He obviously logged on the forum on his phone

I've always liked Welbeck, has looked better than Macheda every time he's played for United. Whether either of them will make it is another matter.

Both Welbeck & Macheda are without doubt the most promising strikers to come through the ranks in recent times, both have a very good return in terms of goals and or assists given there limited amount of starts, I've got high hopes for both.

Both are still very young though and will benefit from loan moves

They're the only strikers to come through the youth team in God knows how many years! and we pinched Macheda anyway!

Welbeck looks a decent player but without completely writing him off at Utd, I do doubt that he's Utd quality. I don't think he's a natural striker either; it might sound silly after scoring 3 in 2 but his finishing has looked terrible. He seems to be more suited to a wide forward role.

As for Macheda, other than 2 good strikes and a deflection, what has he done? The games I've seen him start he's looked totally lost and hasn't influenced the game in any way.

Macheda has 4 goals from 25 games, unless he's got a crapload of assists that is a terrible return. Granted Fergie has not helped him this season by giving him his starts on his own up front.

How many of those 25 games are substitute appearances?

I don't like stats like that being thrown around. I remember when Forlan was laughed at for not having scored in twenty odd games. Plenty of those were 10 minute sub appearances.

It isn't a fair stat. Assuming those 25 games include sub appearances anyway.... :p

Oh yeah a fair number of substitute performances, I'm just saying he hasn't been that impressive so far, he's still young and he really needs a loan move with regular football.

Rossi? Blake? Campbell? They're all ones we brought through the reserves into the first team. Rossi aside Macheda & Welbeck look a lot more able than Blake and Campbell

There's no denying (and I think I've already posted this on this forum) that so far Macheda has been a brilliant impact sub rather than doing anything in the starts he's been given. Having said that he's only going to get better if he's actually given those starts and again he's only 19/20 so it's far too soon to write him off (especially when you see the kids other clubs are bigging up)

As for Macheda's impact as a sub hows this of the top of my head;

08/09 Aston Villa @ home comes on and gets the winner in stoppage time
08/09 Sunderland away comes on and gets the winner 10 minutes from time
09/10 Chelsea @ home comes on and makes the game 1-2
09/10 Spurs @ home comes on and sets up Nani to make it 2-1 10 minutes from time
10/11 Valencia away comes on and sets up Hernandez to make it 0-1 10 minutes from time
10/11 Aston Villa away comes on and makes it 2-1 10 minutes from time (game goes on to finish 2-2)

I personally think the above speaks for itself. I'm not saying he's going to end up amounting to anything at the moment as it's far too soon to say but he's certainly handy to have on the bench at the moment and maybe if he's loaned out next season he can turn that kind of form into the games he starts

EDIT: That's without mentioning that last season was pretty much a write off given the amount of months he missed injured

Have I entered some alternate reality? Why is Welbeck even considered decent, let alone our 'most promising striker' alongside Macheda?
