***SPOILERS***(Real) Football 01-05 Apr 2010/2011

Additionally, good read this:

It's a big long read, so I won't insert it in here but it's about a journo that visited the game at the weekend and talking about the hurls of abuse Rooney was getting from WH fans, and that the response was understandable.

great article thank you for posting the link

Swearing to the ref is not the same as swearing down a camera knowing full well how many people are watching. One is intentionally caught on camera, one is not.

Its quite amazing how few calls Sky got then, if so many viewers were offended

Rooney's got away with it for far to long, you dont need a have a degree in lip reading to see what he says to the ref most games but the refs bottle it and dont even caution him.

He gets payed enough money to act a little better, a fair chunk which comes from TV revenue, so people who watch it shouldn't have to put up with it.

Have you read a daily paper in the last 6 months - nearly every match repoort is about how Rooney has lost it, isnt the player he was blah blah blah, one typical paper today devoted well over 3 pages just to the rant at the weekend - very little on the actual match of course, just on how the FA should punish him. Not only that but a very short while after dragging his team back from certain defeat nearly single-handedly (not to mention making the title easier to capture) of course raw emotion is going to be shown, do Sky HAVE to shove a camera right in his face moments after getting the winning goal.......

Swearing at the ref is almost as bad, if I swore at the ref on a Saturday I would be off, I reckon anywhere from league 1 downwards if they swore insults directly at the ref like Rooney they would be off. These premiership "superstars" think their bigger than the ref and it is totally wrong.

I watched the Johnstone's Paints trophy on sky yesterday and there were tackles flying in left right and center, not once did anyone complain to the ref. If it was Utd vs Chelsea you would have Rio, Terry and their respective gangs sticking their oars in trying to get people sent off. Total lack of respect.

Emotions don't work that way, they don't decrease with money. More money = more pressure. If you want to push a camera in someone face after they have just won a game with 3 goals then you are going to get some emotion. Tell you what, lets follow all of our political leaders about and watch them "keep their views and emotions in check" after a poor conference. Lets follow Alan Sugar about for a year and see how many times he swears.

Its a ridiculous punishment that is completely pointless and does nothing other than make the FA members feel like they are earning their salaries.

Good article? No. This journalist is actually criticising the Sky cameraman for positioning himself behind the goal where he thought the penalty would go and then move in for a close-up of Rooney after. What does he want, a 20 yard exclusion zone around Rooney at all times?

Sorry, if he's going to use that as part of the excuse then he fails, miserably.

Congratulations for ignoring the majority of the article, you win a prize for selective reading and Rooney bashing!

Advance to the next level, and selectively quote me too!

Read the article and then try and take some time to understand it - thats my advice - because you blatantly didnt on the first read

What you mentioned was a minor addition to what Rooney was put through yet thats the only thing you can point out

He even failed to understand why the article even brought up the camera man too.

I did read the article, and i agree with some of it, but:

1. It is still no excuse for his behaviour.
2. Why criticise Sky when its Rooney who is the wrong.

Anyway, I'm not going to bother posting here again (which I'm sure you'll be relieved about). Anything that might be seen as anti-Man Utd around here is obviously no-go.

I don't like Man Utd (under statement) but I can see the hypocrisy in this decision by the FA.

ok, bye.

Bit of a bummer, to me it's a complete none issue really. As the Independent article mentions there are far more important things going on receiving far less coverage but I guess the increased attention is what you get for being at the top.

A couple of pages ago we were discussing and looking at the Essien tackle, which had nothing done about in the game or by the FA after or touched upon by the media.

General question here; what would you prefer the FA to focus on?

- Those types of tackles they constantly bang on about stopping (not that specific incident)

- The Wayne Rooney 'incident'

- The countless other issues facing them at the moment, such as technology, referees etc.

Sense from a supporter of another club, something I didn't expect to see. Good on you Peg.

I think any fan of any club would strongly agree that the FA are always very hypocritical. Why ban him for this and not when he swore post England vs Algeria? The only thing I can think is that Sky weren't happy and have had some input

Good list of our FA punishments:

The only player to be banned for 8 months for missing a drugs test
The only player to be banned for writing an autobiography
The only player to get banned for getting into handbags with a racist groundsman outside of match-time
The only club for whom red cards in friendlies lead to suspension in the league
The only manager who gets banned for saying the ref was not "fair and strong"
The longest ever ban for violent conduct in Premier League history (not that Eric didn't deserve a long ban, but how long would Shearer have got for the same offence? A couple of months I reckon)
The only player to get banned for swearing during a goal celebration

How can Sky be unhappy - they are widely reported on Sunday morning to not have recieved any calls about what Rooney said

LoLFA

What do you expect from the bunch of muppets.

I expect every single player who swears anywhere near a camera from now on to be banned, I also expect every manager who dare criticise a match referee to be handed a 2 match ban.
