***SPOILERS***(Real) Football 01-05 Apr 2010/2011

ROFL! :D 4-0 Viera, only been on the pitch 30 seconds! Smashing ball by Kolarov across the box!

Well done lino for giving it as well, though he was in a good position.

WOW! From back to worse!

5-0 Yay Toure. Great work from Kolarov to pressure Cattermole and force him into a crazy pass!

Walton is such a crap ref. Our wingers got lumps kicked out of them today.

This tackle wasnt even a card! no doubt the BBC will neglect to show it.

That is pretty hilarious(don't take that the wrong way) if he wasn't even booked for that.

The weekends refereeing display doesn't really do much for them demanding respect, pretty horrendous showings.

Can really see Man City doing some real damange domestically and in europe next season. Just need to get rid of Mario and have Dzeko start scoring.

There was an ugly rumour around a few weeks ago that Silva wants to head back to Spain (being home sick) - have no idea whether its true or not, but IF he does and Tevez leaves also, City may be just as inconsistant next season as they have been this.

a lot of very decent individual players, but not yet a coheasive squad (and it still has to be seen whether they stay in CL positions this season as well)

It's great how there's that tackle from Essien this weekend which could have quite easily snapped Pennants leg yet the back pages are dominated because Rooney swore :/

Rooney is bigger news than Essien, swings and roundabouts, Rooney will get 10 times the praise he deserves when he does something good and 10 times the criticism when he does something wrong, take the good with the bad I suppose. But it's not the first two footed tackle that I've seen go completely unpunished this season, so it's no surprise. Since when did the English media care about ridiculously dangerous/reckless tackles? Unless it's a stick to beat Wenger with :/ Because the neanderthals reading The Sun don't give a **** about an awful tackle as a) 'it's a man's game!' b) 'it's becoming a no contact sport' c) 'he's not that sort of player' etc.

It was because Essien isn't that type of player, probably made everything ok by seeming upset afterwards, was just a bit late, didn't put any maliciousness into it, and can easily claim it was a 50/50.

Or something. Or one of those things.

err cos they're not ball boys?

i don't know if it's still the rule but apparently a club can choose whether they want one ball or multiple balls at a game. most (if not all) choose multiple because of the obvious advantage of keeping the flow. there was an instance a few years back when everton were beating man utd and the game was nearly over and moyes instructed the ball boys to give all the balls back to the dugout, leaving just the one ball in current play available and it getting hoofed into row z by everton at every occassion.

I meant err, why when there are many balls used throughout a game, the refs still sometimes make a point of collecting just the one.

Clearly rubbish as no one is talking about his hat-trick or the quality of it, they're just concentrating on the fact that he swore at a camera man.

The funny thing is, Essien is that type of player, I've seen several terrible challenges from him this season.

What about last season when he had his first good goalscoring season, when the media were calling him world class and second best in the world after Messi?? Laughable. The ridiculousness of last season's Rooney media has only been beaten by the Bale frenzy of this season (which was to be fair, much more laughable than the Rooney praise)

The difference is that positive media coverage does nothing other than make the bad media coverage much worse. If public opinion is against him then he is more likely to be punished harshly for things like the swearing.

Its all a farce at any rate; as Rio Ferdinand has pointed out. Take your kid to a football match and see how many swear words they pick up. Bet not one of them will be from Rooney or another player. Watch tv and I reckon that every weekend you would see 10 players quite blatantly swear at one point or other in the game.

I just assumed that they ignored this because you do see it so often. Rooney does it god know how many times a game. Watch him after a decision goes against him. Football is just getting ridiculous now. We seem to think that throwing money at football players will rid them of emotion and the pressure of being paid £100,000 / week.

Everyone swears, perhaps the parents that are complaining should look at their **** parenting skills before deciding that seeing rooney swear is going to have any effect on their children's behaviour or language. I never swore in front of my parents and wouldn't have dreamed of it either. That didn't stop me round friends.

Breaking News: Rooney hit with a 2 match ban misses the Fulham league game and the City FA Cup tie

Unbelievable

Yep, swearing in football isn't a problem exclusive to Rooney, I personally think it's unacceptable, you can quite easily get your point across without using 5 swear words at a time. I just think it's the manner in which he did it, he turned around after the celebration and intentionally broadcast it to millions of people watching live across the world, I'd expect anybody who does the same to have some form of punishment and would be disappointed if the FA didn't at least look at it. I thought the same when Drogba swore into a camera a few years ago, it was quite funny then but you can easily understand why parents would be annoyed.

Regardless of what we think, young footballers will pick up bad habits from older role models, I've been to youth games and seen diving, shouting at the ref etc. from 10 years olds, quite disturbing. Things like this can't be seen to be ok/the norm and the only reason I'm siding on a games suspension is because just a telling off won't change him one bit, but the FA aren't exactly known for pairing their punishments with any reason.

Edit - Just seen the punishment. I thought 1 was sufficient, just so it's in his mind next time, but it's not that ridiculous, it's another problem Rooney has created for himself.
