**SPORE**

The space stage is a lot more complex and interesting if you can't stand lots of pirate attacks and ecological disasters, but there are mods out to lower the frequency of these (or you can set the frequency yourself).

How do you set them yourself? I assume its not an interface setting?

Edit: NM - Found some info on it (not easy behind our filters). I think I'll just apply a mod rather than the longer DIY process.

I'm curious about this mod, is it easy to do? does it break anything? What mod is it?

It just lowers the frequency of pirate attacks, ecological disasters, that sort of thing so that you can actually get on with your game instead of flying all over to defend your turrets. It's very easy to do and very easy to undo should anything go wrong (just make sure you rename the files you replace to .bak before replacing them).

I know this is a complete kop out but I decided last night instead of applying a mod to try the space stage on easy. So I started a new game and off I went flying through the tutorial missions and back up to the same point I was in with my main game. The difference is quite obvious with the frequency of attacks and disasters drastically reduced allowing me to actually play the game.

Anyway - last night I played for 4 hours and I actually enjoyed myself, finding that I wasn't getting frustrated with the 1 sidedness of the game.... However it is now a little too easy, spice production seems to have been increased (I think), and obviously the reduced attacks and disasters means I have more time to do as I wish and keep a stable economy running. The difference between easy and medium really is vast, I just wish there was some medium between the 2.... and I don't even want to imagine what it would be like on hard

After this I might restart a game on medium and see if it has just been an unfortunate starting position for me in my main game, 1 day I might even go back to it and see if I can take my 1st civilization to galactic glory. For now though, i'm happy to just to enjoy the experience on easy !!!

The mod alters nothing else in the game apart from the frequency of disasters (pirates, ecological, empires attacking you etc.) in the space stage, no other parts of the game or anything. It also comes in a few different flavours so you can decide how heavy or light you want the game to be.

You can find the mod by clicking on this link. :)

thanks for that, but it only sorts it out of you start a new game?

Aye, unfortunately. You can start a new game and start it in the space stage, but whether you want to lose your current empire in your current game is obviously the issue here. It was an easy decision for me as I couldn't even play my current empire at the rate of pirate attacks I was getting. :(

lol yeah, lately I just haven't been responding to my communications for help cos I got sick of it, especially when im nowhere near the planets that need help. Dont know how this is going to affect my game tho :/

Also does anyone else find it really hard to take over a planet by force if they are equipped for space travel?

i guess it depends on what weapons you've got and how far you've upgraded the ship and if you want to destroy the planet or cap it. dieing has no consequence and the colonies don't repair that quickly so if you are on low health just die and repspawn and go back to finish them off.

it's gets "tricky" if you want to keep the colonies, bomb them too much and they explode so it sometimes takes a while to judge how much damage they need to take. but if you upgrade your ship fully it will take them a while to kill you so you can hang around.

enemies also get weaker the fewer colonies they have (I am playing on easy :D ) so take out the t0 or t1 planets first then go for the bigguns.

upgrade and upgrade!

Thats my current tactic, smaller planets first which I look to destroy. Then the T2 and T3 planets which I look to keep :)

It would be useful to know what you have to do to achieve certain upgrades. Is there a list anywhere to this effect?

Space Event Reducer - Final Version

Description - This mod will reduce the frequency of all space event for the purpose of allowing people to enjoy their universe, rather than babysitting their planets.

Extraction - It is in .rar format, so you will need winrar or equivalent to unzip. Also you may notice the file explodes from 8mB to 190mB. This is normal. (Hence why I compressed it)

Installation
-Back up your Spore_Game.package in the ..spore/data folder. Back it up to a different folder.
-Extract Spore_Game.package from whichever version you downloaded and put it into the ..spore/data folder.
-Start a new game.

Un install
-Delete my mod
-Restore backup Spore_Game.package to ..spore\data.

Note - There are badges earned by preventing eco disasters, and defending your allies, so you may wish to refrain from downloading the bigger files, but it is your galaxy, play it how you wish.
