So, I found this little lot in the garage today lurking on a shelf.

I very much want to learn how to use it :D So can anyone tell me, or tell me where to find out what kind of paint I need, what to do with it, how to spray it, and so on... I've seen this done on the tv lots of times and it looks quite technical!

That little pump won't be enough to drive the spray gun unfortunately. You'll need at least a 4cfm compressor and preferably at least 8cfm. It's a regular suction feed gun, you can use either cellulose or 2-pack paint which you can get from your local auto paint supplier which you will find in the Yellow Pages. I use 2-pack but you need a proper 2-pack mask or you will probably die while you are spraying, celly you can get away with just a dust mask but I'd probably recommend something a bit more substantial so you don't get too high :)

Best thing to do is get yourself some paint, thinners, mixing cups and a couple of spare car panels and get some practice in :D

he does airbrushing though doesnt he ? something completely different to spraying cars.

or is he a car sprayer by trade as well ?

You reckon? That is a kit, the blue pack contains instructions, spare nozzle for the gun, couple of O rings for the gun and a spare diaphragm for the compressor.

How much is one of these masks so that I wont die then?
 
i use cellulose, no need for silly masks and much more forgiving to the newbie painter.
You never know it might power it, dont think it will do a great job, but i only use my compressor at half power for sprayin.
 
No way will that little compressor be enough for anywhere near a decent job. Also the proper 2 pack masks are air fed from the compressor. I'd say if that spray gun came in a kit with that compressor I wouldn't expect it to be much cop either.

I use a normal mask and 2 pack though, and I'm still standing. ;) But I wouldn't advise it to anyone in case anything bad happened.

Yeap will be for a good long while to come. There is an exception in the new EU guidlines that allows cellulose still to be supplied for classic cars.
 
That compressor is no good for anything but airbrushing & not with that kit supplied either. Get a decent airbrushing gun & start modding cases with it.
Or sell it to me & let me start airbrushing cases as i am looking for one of them :D
Either way it won't have the power or capacity for Motor panel spraying.
 
Basic 2-pack masks are called 30-day masks. You open the pack and you have 30 days continuous use. You can seal it back in the bag, the use it for the remaining time. Cost about £25 and is fine for the occasional 2-pack sprayer. If you spray all the time then go for a proper air fed mask and suit but for only every now and then you don't need to worry. Just don't use a plain dust mask because the wet fumes are toxic and the 30-day mask filters it all out.
 
i use a "Gerson 2K Paint Spraying Respirator" for spraying 2k and it does the job very well. if you take a peak on a well known auction site you can find them with the cartridges pre-filters etc etc for around £35 delivered

i also use a 150L 14cfm v twin compressor, which is a bit overkill but i can do a whole car without having to recharge pressure etc etc

your little one will be useless
