Ok, so the Mondeo has annoying squeeling brakes which make me feel daft every time I brake.

They were absolutely perfect until I had the discs and pads changed. Ever since, they've done this.

I took it back to the place who fitted them, and they 'cleaned them up' and told me to see how it was. There was no change.

It's now booked in tommorrow for another look but they seem lost as to what the problem is. They claim they are properly greased.

Any ideas?

Take the brakes off, look at the back of the pads, check whether there is enough copper grease on them. If not add more.

Any idea what make of pads were fitted? We've recently had a few sets of Quinton Hazel pads returned at work, due to them being very noisy. Could just be coincidence that we've a had a fewback within the space of a week though.

They may actually be supposed to do this, higher performance / sports ones (i am told) do. RX8 brakes squeal sometimes and there is nothing that can be done about it as they are performance brakes.

If its not that they aren't correctly greased, as suggested before, theres no grooves in the disks are there? could well be a stone or something stuck between the disk and pad, happened to me a few weeks back, tiny scores in the disk now!

Im confused.

Why is everyone on about grease? Some pads will squeak when they touch the disks, theres no grease involved in that contact. Shims and rattle plates etc do the noise job, grease sorts corrosion issues out.

Go give it a good rag and get the brakes hot, that should sort most pads out. Something tells me your not running a race compound :D

My GF Corsa had some EBC ultimax or sommat, some nice road compound pads at the bottom end of their range... were they quiet... were they hell. Damn EBC  Could be just a crappy pad type.

Grease goes between the piston and the pad, not between the pad and disc!!

The squeaking sound is generally the pad moving against the piston.

IIRC the Mundano has anti squeel shims, but you can probably bet your bottom dollar that the 13 year old monkey apprentice didnt put cooper grease on the pads, etc.

Halfrauds sell a CG spray which is quite useful, all you really need to do is pop the wheel off and spary the pad backing plate.

In addition, as has been said, it could also be a stone!

also, LOL : JohnnyCoupe! Copper Grease stops brake squeel - Fact!

oooh, might have to go pick some of that up - takeing the whole brake assembly apart to stop the sqeeling is a right pita :)

I've got the same problem with the missus' MX6. I changed all the disks and pads and now the thing squeals like a stuck Welshman every time she applies the brakes.

Shims are all in place and there is enough copperslip behind the pads to grease a platoon of monkeys. Still no joy.

I don't care tbh but the noise she makes while complaining about them is worse that the squeak from the brakes.
