Squid Game

It was good series overall. However for me, the finale felt
Unsatisfied because of Seong Gi-Hun and could have been better even with a cliche. I did like the cameo and suggestions that it moved to the states.

I thought S3 episodes excellent, i was worried as S2 was good, but not on par as 1 or 3. The games were brutal! However, it certainly wrapped up the all the Korean arcs making way for the US Squid Games.

I wanted Seong Gi-Hun and his crew to bring down the games, but with the money spinner of moving the games to the US, this couldn't have happened. Either Gi-Hun 'wins' which means the games are exposed ie no more Squid Games or he gets a heroic death showing In-Ho and the VIPs that not all humans are trash, but the games continue elsewhere ie more £££'s.

I got a spoiler on FB about US Squid Games, but thought it was a reboot, so how the ending played out, sets up another country games quite well. However, will it be the same grittiness as the Korean version? Doubt it - watered down and woke? Hopefully not.

Should let it die there but Ive seen, fake or not, plans to milk the squid for a whole dumb bunch of spin odds.

Sad that tv always goes this way.
We'll all be sick of it soon.

Thought Season 3 was really good. Episodes 2 and 3 in particular were amazing. Think the last episode felt a little poorly paced and drawn out in places. The very ending felt pretty unnecessary but I'll reserve judgement until it actually happens.
I'm fine with Seong's ending, it fit his character and felt like an earned death. I think him winning it twice would have felt like we hadn't moved anywhere. I thought the whole storyline with the child and the parents was really well done over the two series. In general I think the player dynamics were done better in the last two seasons than the first actually. Season 2 and 3 had less bad games too. Season 1 it all went a bit downhill after the first couple of games but these ones were much better

The CGI was a bit ropy in places, particularly that damn dog. The baby was too but I can understand why they did it. The VIP's were again just atrociously dubbed, I don't know why they can't get that right. At least their dialogue was a bit less wooden this time though, it was quite easy to imagine someone like Musk saying the things they did lol.

the issue i felt with season 2/3 (it's essentially 1 season but with a 6 month gap)

if you rewatch season 2, it's setting up that there's essentially 3/4 different ways that the squid games are going to be found out/fail.

you've got our main guy going back in and trying to disrupt things.
that north korean girl
the boat boys searching for the island
that our main guy may help the chairman find a soul and he does something good that destorys the squid games/rich people etc

in the end, they all came together at the exact same moment, the boat boys finally find the island just at the end, the north korean girl starts to kill other staff, our main guy is working his way towards the end, and it was all for nothing really.

i thought the idea of this season was going to be for us to keep guessing what is going to bring down the squid games. who will be succesful. but none of them succeeded.

the best comparison i can think of is imagine watching lord of the rings, and it's set up like one of the fellowship is clearly going to be the one to destory the ring. the ring is passed around between the group, and often one looks like he's going to fail/die, but doens't, another looks successful but messes up, and the whole time you know this will end and it has to end with the ring being destoryed, the mystery is just in who will be the one to destory it, and in the end none of them manage it. and sauron just moves out in the end and retires.

Finished last night and enjoyed the last season.

We were talking to my mum about it as she'd seen it on Gogglebox. She thought it was a real reality show and that the 'deaths' were done with 'ai people'.

I don't think the show has to end that way, evil being overcome is just one possible ending. It's different with LOTR because that was a world threatening evil, Squid Games obviously isn't. It's not a story about good vs evil it's about the nature of humanity and what people will let slide for personal gain. We don't even know if the American game had any connection to the Korean one, it wasn't clear whether the leader was familiar with it or not (other than obviously the basic concept)

I think the dialogue was mostly ok, and doesn't feel far fetched in the world of Musk and the idiotic tech bros. Just the dubbing, especially for the woman was so, so bad.

Skipped S2 and S3. Liked S1, but I don't generally like to watch shows with subtitles and I don't like listening to dubbed audio either.

I would watch the rumoured USA version, as long as I don't need to have seen S2&3 for continuity.

Isn't this show designed for the dubbing, which has helped it succeed as much as it has.

Literally every "enemy" has a face mask, so dubbing is no issue for them. Plenty scenes with the players are also filmed in such a way that dialogue isn't seen

I doubt it, but I only watched S1 tbh. I'm certain it's only USA and UK viewers who watch the dubbed versions :p It's not about the mouth moving out of sync with audio dub (which masked characters can help with), it's the lack of authenticity and emotion imo.

Honestly, I don't know a single person who watches with dubbed audio in Spain!

The dubbing for the VIP's was terrible and really pulled me out of enjoying what I was watching. Even if they insisted on dubbing they should have gone for more natural sounding voices for the characters.

Wasn’t sure if they were real or not, the lips were well synced if it was dubbed

they should have had S2 and 3 together, 3 was a lot better and it had a good ending for the guy. I think i will struggle to get into the american version, being in Korean gives it a certain something that will be lost when it goes west.

LOL As if that will make any difference.. Netflix Cash Cow!
Thought it was pretty good.. I cant believe they got Cate Blanchette to make a cameo.. If you dont think there is a US version with her cast as the recruiter then i dunno. .
