Again, thanks for all the great feedback and comments and my apologies for the thread hike but i figured this system had sat in its box long enough so decided to fire it up and start trying a little overclocking.
I'm no wizard when it comes to overclcocking and only had a couple of hours spare to try a few settings so can't confirm if its Prime stable yet or if i'm doing it correct but i managed to run a few benchmarks nonetheless and i haven't blown anything up yet
Temps were fine but i’d be more surprised if they weren’t with the amount of radiator i have in there.
Low 20’s at idol going up to high 50’s low 60’s after an hour of Prime at 100% but this isn’t an overclock i’ll be running for any great length of time and will drop it back to around 4GHz or below for everyday use........not that i’ll be using it much anyway.
Its next outing is down to Multiplay Insomnia i43 in August.
Nice.. my SR-2 its 70° regularly but then its 24/7 folding plus I only have a single 420 and my ambients are poo, gets better during the winter, mind you never had a problem with it even with high temps.
Good luck with the showcases, you've done an amazing job, been following it on XS as well as here. Wish I had the patience my builds tend to be more utilitarian
I read quite a few posts on various forums how best to clock this thing and must admit i think i got quite lucky with this one as it all seemed pretty painless to get where i got with maybe a little to go but would rather have it 100% stable at slightly less rather than problems every 5 minutes.
Next plan is to ditch the four GTX480’s and replace with a couple of 580 or 590’s so its less of a draw on the single 1200w PSU as i had to turn three of them off to get this clock
I know what you mean about the gpu power draw, got a quad gtx 470 build myself, I just got a 1500w psu instead! they look so nice all 4 of them there together haha
