Hi, I've heard that 4k is the new standard for IOPS and just want someone to confirm what I'm doing is right... this is kinda new so just say if im going **** up on it.
I've bought an OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS 240GB SSD which I'm going to use as my OS hard drive (under windows 7) @6GBs SATA 3 mode. Will be building a new PC in a few weeks - using X79 chipset, ASUS Rampage IV Formula MB.
Obviously my first guess is to connect it to my current pc and go into Storage > Disk Manager> Select the Disk> Format> File System "NTFS" and Allocation Unit Size @ "4096" (is this right?) Should I do it another way?
Or should I just format the drive thru windows setup (at its default settings)? Does 4K actually improve performance even on this fast SSD @6Gb/s?
My main goal is to get the maximum out of this SSD before i set it up. I'm using AHCI - no raid.
My games are being installed on my other SSD which i'll set up the same using 4k & 6Gbs if its worth it & User files on a standard 1TB SATA II HDD.
If anyone can give me an idea if I'm doing this right I'm very grateful. If their's any disadvantages doing it like this please say too! Thanks
