my results on old drives

MB/s = 1,000,000 byte/s [SATA/300 = 300,000,000 byte/s]

Sequential Read : 437.052 MB/s
Sequential Write : 189.988 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 211.413 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 139.470 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 23.273 MB/s [ 5681.9 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 19.565 MB/s [ 4776.5 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 81.967 MB/s [ 20011.5 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 21.213 MB/s [ 5178.9 IOPS]

really want some new ones but they are getting faster and cheaper think ill wait till next year now

Hey

I have no idea why it is as fast as it is.

I have It running on nforce 750a chipset
Asus M3N-HD/HDMI
So must work well

Not complaining just nice suprise

I used the default windows 7 drivers since the nforce drivers from Nvidia don't support trim

Glad you took the plunge Ryan. Followed your previous thread when you were considering getting one. I knew you wouldn't regret it.
People keep waiting for either bigger sizes or cheaper prices but the prices arnt really going to drop any sizeable amount anytime soon. It's worth getting an SSD right now if you want to improve your system (as Ryan has found out)
SSD performance will continue to improve just don't expect to see SSD's at mechanical drive sizes or prices in the near future. If you are waiting for either of these things to happen (i.e a 500gb SSD for £50) then you are gonna have to wait several years.
Premium products are for the premium market.

I caved in last week and went ssd as well. Got 2 40gb intel ones in raid0 and I agree the performance is amazing. But for me the novelty soon wore off and then I realised I basically just spent 150 odd quid to load things a few seconds quicker. Plus it was a right hassle to migrate my win7 install onto the ssd. Maybe it's because I already ran 500gb raid0 before so the wow factor wasn't as big for me. Either that or I just expected too much

You really should just go out and get one if you're sitting there on the edge folks

It's absolutely mindblowing the difference it makes.

Its like moving from a Pentium4 to an i7 980x.. sorta >_>

I hate it when you expect too much out of a piece of hardware.
Can be very very disappointing

You will only notice how big the difference is, when you go back using the old mechanical drive as an OS drive.

lol im still using a Prentium 4 computer!! until in a couple of months i will be able to finally upgrade big time

So do people just install their OS's on the drive? If I have a ssd for my os and a normal drive for my gaming will it improve how my games run?

if you install your games on the SSD you will see an improvement in the game

loadign times will be reduced massively

You have to install your games to the SSD as well to be able to benefit with the instant access speed of the drive.
