I have a SanDisk 120GB Extreme SSD and a Western Digital Black 1TB HDD and I was wondering what is the point of an mSATA on a normal desktop and the point of SSD caching if you can just put data directly onto the SSD? I can see the use of mSATA for laptops and SSD Caching if you don't want the hassle of un/reinstalling or copy/deleting data, otherwise it just looks a bit gimmicky to me

it works well actually, its best for cheap 60gb ssd's as thats the max space used for caching

only difference i found from os on the ssd and caching was around 10seconds slower start up with caching, everything else worked just as quick

Caching gives you many of the benefits of a pure SSD setup, with the additional capacity of a mechanical drive.

Most people have a relatively small working set (programs / files they use regularly), so 60GB of storage is great for that.

The only down side is that many 60GB disks have poor sequential write speeds. Often less than the mechanical drives they are supplementing... This will be less of an issue in the future. :)
