SSD dead?

My ocz vertex2 drive is only a couple of weeks old and has been working fine. This morning I switched the pc on and recieved the message boot log missing press control alt delete to restart. I've checked in the bios and the drive is not shown, tried resetting the bios and removing the battery for 10 minutes but on restarting the drive is still not showing in the bios. I've swapped it's power and data cables with those of the other hard drive I have installed but it's still the same result. Even tried the SSD in the pc I'm using now and it's still a no show.

My vertex 1 died a few days ago. I'd suggest going to their forums and starting a thread - they seem generally helpful. I'm waiting on some help from one of their employees regarding possibly resurrecting my drive.

Ditto, I lost my RAID 0 last week, the bios sat at "detecting SATA" for a couple of minutes and then flagged up a missing boot media message, they've both been RMAed back to OCZ, leaving me with a Raptor as a temp drive, I can't believe how noisy and slow the damn thing is in comparison.

Sounds familiar. One of mine is off for replacement as well.

Edit: How many of these are the 25nm ones? I know mine is.

This in my THIRD vertex to DIE

This in my THIRD vertex to die I am not happy one yes, two maybe but three no way :mad::mad:
I returned the drive to OCZ in the Netherlands on the 24th March still the RMA ticket says they haven’t received it again I am not happy having to return it to the Netherlands it was bought in the UK, I have replaced the Vertex’s with two Crucial SSD's and so far so good not a glitch (fingers crossed)

I managed to get mine working again after doing a "destructive flash" in the engineering mode (jumper on those two pins). Apparently many of the problems relate to bad firmware flashes.

The most recent firmware update for my Intels (I have two in RAID0) corrupted the partition tables. Was able to recover the data but it was far from trivial.
Secure erased them and did a clean install, everything seems fine.

And other dead ocz vertex2 here , rma'd and waiting on a new one .

I was thing about getting a bigger one ... maybe I'll try Crucial .

I'm a little worried now, my single Vertex 2E 120gb has been running windows since September with no issues "touch wood".

Is the "E" model different in any way to the others that have failed or are they all affected?

Vertex 2 and Vertex 2E are the same drives (except for the amount of over-provisioning). I have a 90GB Bigfoot myself and outsides of ensuring it has the latest firmware and taking regular backups, there's not much you can do if it's going to die.

Just logged in to the OCZ RMA web site the new drive has been sent on the 7th April 2011 by FedEx and is expected here on the by the 18th April.
The Vertexes I have is the first generation maybe the newer one are more reliable, I would like to hope so, why I got the OCZ SSD was because I have used and still use there computer memory and haven’t had a problem , but I won’t be buying any more OCZ SSD’s
Maybe I have just been unlucky, but after 3 going wrong in the space of 2 years and just in case some might say, NO the firmware wasn’t updated, they just died :confused::confused:
