ssd dead

ocz rma's must be shocking at the mo as they have had my memory for 2 months and they dont like answering support tickets. I do hope you get things sorted quicker than me.

This comes up again and again on OcUK. Im convinced that a certain firmware version is causing this. Im running a Bigfoot drive with 1.32 firmware and no problems. It would seem certain boards cause problems :(

In principle SSD's are more reliable than Mechanical HDD's.

There was a study done however, that showed that they still had a reasonably high failure rate
"For the first time, we also integrate SSDs in this type of article. The rates of failures recorded by manufacturer: -
Intel 0.59% -
2.17% Corsair -
Crucial 2.25% -
2.39% Kingston -
2.93% OCZ
Intel stands here with a failure rate of the flattering"

Obviously french translated article, so slightly out on wording, but it gets the idea across. It also has traditional HDD failure rates if you have Chrome or the like that'll translate a whole page for you.

NB This was Pre-latest gen SSD release - so the SATA 3 stuff

My Bigfoot worked fine for 6 months and died last monday without warning, I started my computer and it was just gone, bricked, could not even get it to be recognised with a SATA to USB adaptor. Bye Bye OCZ and Sandforce, I just got a crucial M4 128 that rate 7.9 in WEI, very happy so far, fingers crossed. For your information I am running it on an ASUS P8P67 pro.

I've been reading up on OCZ recently in anticipation of getting one of their new Revodrive Hybrid's, and from the user reviews I've seen it seems fairly typical that their products are fast but unreliable. And that their RMA process and general customer support are really bad. Sorry this doesn't help the OP very much, but maybe as a warning to others; think carefully before you commit to one of their drives.

OCZ turned around my pen drive in about 14 days. Not the fastest of RMA services but I got a brand new one back no questions asked. Royal Mail took their time getting it into Europe to be fair though.
