I'm looking to purchase a SSD to hold the O/S and maybe a few apps. So I don't need a vast amount of memory. The few i have looked at....

Patriot PS100 32GB £64.99
Read - 210 MB/s
Write - 150 MB/s

Intel X25 40GB £95.99
Read - 170 MB/s
Write - 35 MB/s

OCZ Vertex 30GB £99.99
Read - 230 MB/s
Write - 135 MB/s

Patriot PS100 64GB £134.98
Read - 210 MB/s
Write - 150 MB/s

Anyway looking at these drives the 32GB patriot looks better value than the others. For a start Read/Write speeds are a lot greater than Intel's X25. Similar specs to the OCZ vertex but for £35 less. And the 64GB is just over twice as much as the 32GB so it's probably worth buying two 32GB drives.

What does everyone else think?

The PS-100 has crippling issues last time i looked. These were meant to be getting fixed by a firmware update.

30GB is a possibly a bit too constraining if you do anything more than office work and web browsing. Either get a 40GB Intel, or the 64GB M225. If you're positive that 30GB is enough, The vertex is pretty good.

How much does Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) take up, Microsoft website recommends 20 GB's.

It needs only about 15GB for the actual install, but ignoring Page and hibernation files, only takes up about 8-9GB after the actual install is finished.

For a system drive aren't the sequential write speeds not that important anyway? In which case the Intel one should still be plenty fast enough.

Intels 4k random write performance pretty much makes up for the lower than average sequential write speeds in the majority of applications.

I have 3 patriots in RAID 0 and they fly, did have an issue with it locking sector 0 but a FW patch seems to have cured that

I get over 600mb/s reads at peak
