Hi there :) So im wanting to use my SSD for my OS + a couple of frequently used programs such as Wow and LoL and a Normal Hard drive for my Files+Programs as it says in the title.

First up, is this a good idea?

Second, a lot of programs don't even ask me where they want to be installed but simply install straight to the C Drive. How to I stop this/ change where they default install to.

Third, is it possible to change where the C drive and default documents are created when installing windows?

Thanks Seb!

what programs dont give you a choice as to where to install to? if you click custom it lets you select the hdd/folder for example your storage hdd

and yes that setup is ideal ssd=os,hdd=storage, thats how i have mine setup and it works great

SSD for windows and games sata drive for storage and apps, putting games on a ssd is the whole point you get much better load times.
Most things you install you can change to a custom directory before installing them am sure you can change the default a quick google search says you can but I think it's been known to cause a few problems so probably worth just doing manually when installing new stuff.
This is a good ssd rough guide and tweaks third post down is all the good stuff http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds

Hi, l use a 256GB SSD for W7 + apps + games l play all the time about 4 and 500GB HDD for older games, back up and anything else.

Personally I would just install normal programs to the SSD, it defies the point of having the SSD in the first place if you're going to be selective about what is and isn't stored on it. Games are the obvious exception due to their size.

Agreed. Most programs are tiny compared to games

yes but don't benefit really from the extra speed not like apps take long to load on any drive so it's pointless I'd much rather keep every last precious gb reserved for games as they can actually have long load times unlike apps.

Hey! First off, thanks for all the great advice!

But honestly, I was most interested in changing where the C drive and default documents are created when installing windows, because this gave me a lot of trouble when I tried this last time. And I believe would also solve all the issues im having, Thanks! :)
