Hi all, just installed an 80gb intel ssd, whilst I have to say it is very snappy, it isn't the light year forward I thought it would be, still happy though.

Quick question; running 1 with 30gb os partition and 45gb partition am going to copy my most played steam games onto. (using f1 1tb also, 280gb for steam folder, rest storage)

Will I need to do anything active to maintian the drive- i.e. activate trim ect? or is this all automatic?

Also if anyone knows a good registry maintainance software please let me know.

Thanks peeps.

First make sure you have the latest firmware on your drive, it's easy to upgrade it with a bootable iso from the Intel site and you won't lose any data during the update.

Make sure you're running in AHCI mode, if you installed in IDE mode, theres a registry change you can make to fix things (google it)

If you're running Win7, use either the default AHCI drivers, or the Intel Rapid Storage drivers, and it will TRIM your drive automatically.

If you're running another version of windows you'll want to grab the Intel SSD toolbox, which will let you schedule a TRIM (daily or weekly will be fine) You'll probably want to disable windows system restore otherwise it forces an unnecessary amount of writes (not to mention taking up sevreal GB of valuable space)

How can I get the intel firmware updated without a blank cd? USB pen? I have tried a blank dvd but no joy- why can they not make it easier?

Found a workaround.
