SSD in game freezing

Hi All
I didnt know whether to post this in here or in games, but as i believe is HD related i decided here.

I have just installed win 7 64 and some games on to a new Crucial C300 120g SSD.
Windows loading times and game loading times are great but i am getting issues with my games temporarilly freezing while playing. The freezes are only a second or two but its really annoying. My frame rates are consistency good before and after the freezes, so I dont think it is graphics card problem.
I mostly play arma 2 and F1 2010 and it effects both games in the same way, and this did not happen when previously installed on my old standard HDD

I have made sure trim is enabled and log off of an evening to allow trim to do its stuff but still no joy.
I have down loaded an SSD tune programme and let it autotune the drive and still no improvements.

My specs are
i7 @ 3800
6g DDR3
EX58- UD3R
295 GTX

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Renton

Do you know what version of the firmware its on?

IIRC there is a stuttering issue with the latest firmware. Head over to the cruical forums and have a read.

IF the firmware is 0006 then that may explain the issues.

No problem mate, firmware 0002 (which im on) has been flawless. Have a look if its possible to 'downgrade'

Oh dear, several topics 50+ pages long on this subject, I dont have much luck with SSD,s :(

Just a question, do all SSd,s suffer from these sort of problems or is it just crucial? and would this problem constitute a faulty drive?

Cheers

I don't get stuttering on my Intel so most likely an issue related to that particular make/model and firmware version.

I'm sure Crucial will sort it as I don't think it's an inherent problem with the drive.

yeh, its the latest firmware that caused all the issues. 0002 is fine, look into how you can down grade

My 64gh 006 had the same issue, disable write caching on it will help resolve it for now.

Hi Again
I have been looking on the Crucial forums for some resolution to this and it appears they wont be adressing the firmware anytime soon.
I would like to prove that it is is the C300 that is causing the problem so installed a Samsung F3 as a secondry drive and installed DSC A10 onto it and it was stuttering badly aswell.
Am i right in saying that as this game is running from the F3 that the possible issues with the C300 should not be a problem? or will a better test be to install win7 onto the F3 and test it as a standalone drive? I would rather not have to do this as it would mean having to reinstal and config everything but the games are becoming unplayable so it might be the only option
As I posted in originally with my old drive all the other components performed flawlessly

Ant advise would be welcome

Cheers

Hi Renton,

To really rule out the ssd take it out of the equation totally, Re-install Win7 onto your mechanical hdd and then see what happens.

Also make a note of what drivers you install, as a driver could also be introducing the issue.

Ok I installed win7 on to the mechanical drive and once again everything runs fine (except my startup/loading times grrr)

So i guess that puts it down to a driver issue or a faulty drive, does anyone know what drivers I should be looking at? I have gone into device manager and checked all the driver and apparently they are all "the most upto date drivers available"

Cheers

hi there

just to add to this, i installed a intel ssd lastnight, and l4d2 stuttered every now and then, also it stutters when loading the game up from steam......could be related? i also have steam on a second ssd with all the games on......and i also use a gtx 295......

I had the 64gb real crucial drive, my stuttering was more prevalent in browsing, I also hit their forums and found the large thread on the issue, ridiculous that they are not doing anything about it, I was on win7 64bit. I returned mine

I've got the same problem with a 64Gb crucial SSD C300 and it's so frustrating.

I had it installed for a few months on my old P5Q motherboard with no issues, yet as soon as I put it on my new P8P67 Pro motherboard I have severe stutters in browsing and games. Nothing I have tried has sorted it so far, and I'm over the grace period for sending it back.

If Crucial don't sort it out soon I will never buy another product from them, and by the look of their forums, and that they've known about this issue for a few months, I don't see that happening.

Does everyone with C300 and 0006 firmware have this issue?

Mine came with this firmware already on, haven't noticed anything as you described yet.

I think I'm experiencing this too since I've just recently purchased a crucial 128gb with the 006 firmware. I haven't played anything except for a 10 trial for wow cataclysm but I've noticed 1 second stutters/pauses so far.

It could be just wow so it's nothing conclusive. I'm downloading my steam games to see if it happens elsewhere.

In the beginning I had the 1 minute iastor freezes but removing the intel RST drivers put a stop to that problem.

Oh crap, I thought I haven't experienced it yet until today when it happened within a few minutes in BFBC2. I'm still hoping they were just lags...

If you have the 1 minute freezes and this in your event log:
The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period. (eventid 9)

There is a hotfix for windows 7, though it's part of service pack 1 too. It didn't do anything for me since I still had the freezes. If you look on the crucial forum there's a massive thread just about these 1 minute or so freezes with no real clear solution :(

I'm really glad that's stopped happening to me.

I got my crucial with 002 firmware, upgraded to 006 before I even started installing and no problems encountered so far it would appear. If you do experience those stutters and you can even get it to happen on a different system with the same drive I'd definitely RMA it to Crucial. They need to see where the firmware is going wrong :)

Just out of interest - slightly confused on this one, is it happening only with games installed on the drive? or just happening to anyone who is running these as boot drives?

Was considering getting one of these, but not so sure now....
