Hi All
Like everybody else on the planet I've decided to take the SSD plunge on the low prices for the 830 series Samsung 256gb drives. I've ordered 2 with the intention to use one for Windows and one for gaming, which will make them a straight like for like swap on my existing setup, with a 2tb HDD used for housing media.
Being lazy, I'm intending on using Norton Ghost to mirror the drives already in use so I dont have to do any fresh installs. My intention is to
1. Use Ghost to mirror my existing Windows drive using the USD/Sata cable
2. Shut down and swap the SSD for the HDD. Power back up and in theory everything should work
3. Do the same for the games drive, but only once the Windows process is shown to have worked.
The overarching idea is that I dont need to move any files around or do any fresh installs. Like I said, lazy
So my questions are
1. Am I missing anything from the above process?
2. At what point should I be enabling AHCI in Bios? Can I do it before I even add the SSDs?
3. Do I need to be doing any formatting of the SSDs before I use them or can I just mirror them then plug and play?
4. Am I shooting myself in the foot by not doing a fresh install? I can if I have to it would just be a pain.
5. Lastly, at what point should I be looking to update the SSD firmware? From the outset or can I do it at the end of the process.
Many thanks. Probably a dumb question in there. Maybe more than one. Forgive me I'm a bit rusty.
Thank you
