Hello,
6 month ago I've upgraded my PC with Crucial RealSSD M4 64GB 2.5 SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive.
I was advised to use this drive for the system uses only.
It worked fine up until lately!
I hardly have any free space on it!
I only installed the OS there. All the additional software was installed on my D drive. At the time of the installation I had about 15GB of spare space on it which now I don't have.
Is there anything I can do to free some space on my C drive? Seriously it has nothing on it apart from the system. (no music, no video no games)

That's quite strange what OS are you using? Windows 7 Ultimate with SP1 on it comes to around 30GB or so. Have you scanned your PC for virus' and such? losing 15GB for no reason seems a bit dodgy to me.

If you don't use hibernation on your pc do this

Start -> type cmd in the search bar then enter

Type 'powercfg -h off' then enter

Restart and you will have more free space

Delete hibernation files, this takes up about 8/9 Gbs. Also check properties on your C drive folders to see what size they are. You could also transfer most of your folders to a partion on your D drive.

Hello, I'm using Windows7 Professional 64 bit. Apart from Microsoft folders, Windows folders, ASUS system drivers and my NOD32 antivirus there is nothing else in my program files folders. I don't know what else is needed to be there and what got there by mistake. I have Adobe CS5 installed on my PC, but maybe despite the fact that it lives on my D drive it still saves something on C drive... I really don't know.

I don't use the hibernation on this PC. I don't even have this set up on my system =(

Maybe you don`t, but unless you have turned offf the hibernation files, they still take up space. Do as spixelspixel has shown you and see how much space is retrieved.

By checking the volume of your folders might help determine where your space has gone.

Is your My Documents, My Photos, My Videos, etc. still located on your C: drive?
Do you have a lot of photos, music and other saved documents saved there?

I said it in the original post I DON'T have anything in those those folders. All videos, music and images are on my D drive. So my documents folder is empty.

How do I check this?? I've done what you've suggested with the Hybernation... the issue is still here =(

Double click My Computor, then right click each folder and click properties. This will tell you the size of the main folder. If a folder is bigger than you think it should be, open the folder and do the same process with all subfolders.

run a disk view utility.

I've used WinDirStat. Could be :
- Hibernation file (6GB)
- Page file (anything, could be 4GB, move it to a HDD).
- Backup & restore files.
- **** in the user folders. the temp folders.
- recycle bin (move to a HDD).
- some games that installed itself on C: drive.

WinDirStat (or whatever equivalent) will tell you where the space has gone.

Windows and general software should be around 35-40GB. Most windows files are in the windows folder, specifically winsxs. Don't touch it!

EDIT : checked my drive, and it's 60GB usage. Looks like It's filling up with rubbish again :/
EDIT2 : Oh yeah, Diablo III...

It says that Users has the 22gb takes space then Windows has 18 gb... but users don't have any of my personal files in there, so I really don't know what can it be!! Take up 22gbs for no reason... unless there are files in hidden folders O_O

use a disk view utility... That will tell you where the usage has gone. Can be your internet cache, or internet download folder (most likely).

Note that you can move your 'My Documents', 'My Video' folders onto a hard drive. right click -> properties -> location.

64GB SSD will need some maintenance. But most of the time, if you are re-locating those folders and manage hibernation, backup & restore, temporary and page file, the space will be enough.
